WTF: Foreign policy plank omitted from this year's MA platform ???!!!
Edited on Wed May-04-05 10:25 PM by welshTerrier2
i just attended a meeting with a very active Democrat ... she informed me that MA had an excellent plank on foreign policy in last year's platform but that there is no foreign policy plank in this year's platform ... is this true ??? i haven't read my convention propaganda er, literature yet ...

she said she spoke to Phil Johnston (sp?), the head of the MA Dem Party ... she told him with Iraq being such an important issue, it was very wrong not to include a plank on foreign policy ... she told him the Party would lose the respect of many of the delegates at the State convention ... he seemed to somewhat agree and said that he would get back to her ... that was 4 days ago ... so far, zilch ...

i was hoping a plank could be added to the platform calling for near-term withdrawal from Iraq ... i'm going to be one pissed off Democrat if i leave that convention and the State Party, the one Howard Dean's been working with so actively, refuses to even acknowledge that foreign policy exists ...

i'll be making a few phonecalls tomorrow ... stories to follow ...

1. I just got this notice from Kate Donoghue's DDemDispatch...
Delegates will also be voting on the proposed platform. My friend and colleage on the DSC, Carol Coakley, asked me to send this meddage. "Any Democrat who would like to see a FOREIGN POLICY PLANK in the proposed Democratic Party Platform (as in our current Mass. Platform) please contact me coakley50@earthlink.net or let the State Party office know your view. Carol Coakley, Millis"

Hope this helps

Carol was the woman who told me about this ... i get Kate's dispatch also but i really appreciate your follow-up on this ...

apparently there's a woman on the platform committee named Martina Jackson (??) who is the main contact on this ... her phone is listed on the state party's website (you have to dig for it a little) ...
