Priest accused of taking parish's funds

Boston, MA, Mar. 10 (UPI) -- Members of a Boston Roman Catholic parish ordered closed because of a lack of funds are accusing the church pastor of misappropriating funds.

The church members are demanding an attorney general's investigation into the financial dealings of the Rev. Francis de Sales Paolo, 72, while he was pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in East Boston, the Boston Herald reported Thursday.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel was among the dozens of parishes Boston Archdiocesan officials ordered closed last year. Officials cited declining attendance and a lack of funds for listing the parish among those to be closed.

Parishioners have been keeping vigil at the church since the Oct. 12 closure.
