Romney wants $225M in tax cuts
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/05/04/romney_seeks_225m_in_tax_cuts/

Hey, I've got an idea asswipe. Instead of pandering to the base that screams income tax cut, income tax cut... why don't you give us a real tax cut? How? By giving the local aid we need so that our property taxes don't go up 20% again this year!

This tax cut Romney is proposing would come out to approximately $100 per person. Whoopee. This year, he reduced funding to my town by 20%. Same as the year before. In the past three years, my property taxes have doubled.

Yeah, that $100 will really come in handy. :eyes:

Asswipe.

If he really wanted to benefit the taxpayers, he would give the towns the aid they need (and used to get) to give taxpayer relief from staggering property taxes. But, he doesn't really want to benefit the taxpayers, he wants to pander to the RNC and say... see? I pushed through income tax cuts (and discriminated against gays and tried to re-introduce the death penalty).

2. Excellent idea!
The economy's getting better - we need a tax cut to help it along.
The economy's excellent - we need a tax cut to keep it that way.
The economy's taken a turn - we need a tax cut to fix it.
The economy's bad - we need a tax cut to make it better.

Do they know anything else BUT this?

We cannot afford to have this man serve another term. Between this and his death penalty bullshit my head is starting to spin.

14. I don't like Reilly.
I was really bothered by all his grandstanding during the Louise Woodward trial. What happened was a tragedy, but I'm sorry, I don't believe that woman was a murderer, first-degree at that. He went after her like she was a horrific, dangerous mass-murderer. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

5. My thoughts exactly
the Commonwealth's addiction to pricey unfunded mandates (expl. the MCAS) has never been worse despite a sluggish state economy.
So howzabout some revenue sharing with the localities to ease the pain a bit?
Nope that is too old skool yo for New Jack Mitt, the decaf governor...
Well now we see the dimensions of the platform the hand selected Romneyettes will be running on this fall...
1.) A tax cut no matter how many pot holes there are between here and home...
2.) The Death Penalty
3.) Fag Bashing or as the Romneyettes will call it "da dee-fense o' marriage"...

8. Ridiculous
Our school district (Barnstable) is laying off 24 teachers this year. Part of that is because the rich and the retired managed to defeat an override, but part of that is because we're getting screwed on local aid.

How about funding some of those programs we cut? Cutting income taxes is utterly foolish.

Romney's just another "drown government in the bathtub" Repuke. Anyone who thinks otherwise is flat out wrong.

16. The Mittster is looking to the future.
He wants to be on the national (Republican) stage and must spout the RC Talking Points: TAX CUTS DAMMIT! DEATH PENALTY DAMMIT! NO GAY MARRIAGE DAMMIT!

What a tool. There is no groundswell in Massachusetts demanding any of the above.

I can't wait until he gets a one-way ticket back to Utah (or Michigan) or wherever he claims to come from.

17. Property taxes have gone up because
property values have gone up so drastically. Property tax rates are curbed because of Prop 2 1/2, so its the value assessments that are the problem.

That said, there is nothing smart about decreasing taxes when you ALREADY don't have enough money to pay your bills. The cities and towns (especially the small cities and towns) are already laying off teachers and police left and right. It's time to reverse this trend.

18. You're right, but...
in the case of my town, they used to update property assessments every five years or so (maybe longer). In the past three years, they have done it every year. Basically, because they need the money and they know that's the only way to get more than a 2.5% increase out of us.

You wanna know how much my property tax has gone up in the last 3 years?

48%.

I paid about $3000 in property taxes for my house in 2000 and I'll be paying about $6000 this year.

This year alone, it's going up 21% over last year. So much for the 2.5%. :(

But, you're right that it's the values, but they changed the rules on how often they do the valuations so that they can milk us for more and more each year. (my town anyway) All that bullshit wouldn't be necessary if Romney hadn't decreased our town's funding by 20% this year. So, he decreased funding to my town 20% this year (and the year before that was a huge cut, too). I'm personally paying 21% more this year. And he wants to give more income tax cuts. What an asshole. I can't wait for him to go back to Utah.
