the republicans are at the very shallow end of the gene pool in terms of leadership. Weld swore he'd stay and immediately began looking for a job with clinton until Jesse Helms backstabbed him (and weld wasn't really a repub, he was a libertarian); his Lt. Gov., Cellucci would never have made the A-list for Governor (he had $600,000 in credit card debt; the story went that he advocated for cutting tolls west on the Mass Turnpike so he could get out to the racetracks in Saratoga NY w/o slowing down) He promised to stay, then left early to take the Ambassadorship to Canada, where he has been a complete bust; his Lt. Gov, who arranged for State Police helicopter flights to get her home to western mass and had staff babysitting her kids was actually dumped (!) a sitting governor dumped by her own party as they lusted sfter mitt...) btw, he Lt. Gov candidate in the primaries was none other than Patrick Gurriero, Exec Dir of the Log Cabin republicans- Pat the G Man is notorious for allowing his town (he was a former Mayor) to be used to dump (illegally) toxic sludge from the big dig, where it slopped onto a golf course and playground.
this is about the best the state has to offer.
we'll see who the dems offer up. Could be Joe Kennedy, or DA Tom Reilly; who knows. Kerry not grabbing the big enchilada really set back the hopes and dreams of a lot of hungry dems here in the Bay STate... can you say (let alone imgaine) Senator Barny Frank?
i think they're cooked this time. Mitt made a big deal of going out west to hump for shrub, and when his performance proved, shall we say, less than inspiring, he came back to hump for local candiates, where everything he touched turned to poop. he actually lost seats in the senate and house of rep.
