Senator Berry announcement
http://www.salemnews.com/

After nearly three decades in public office, and eight years as one of the most powerful politicians on Beacon Hill, Senate Majority Leader Frederick Berry announced last night that his 15th term will be his last.

"I am not going to run for re-election," he told those gathered at a fundraiser for the Fred Berry Charitable Fund, an event aimed at raising money for local food pantries that was held at the Peabody Marriott last night.

Those gathered stood twice to cheer Berry, who, with his trademark humor and self-deprecating quips, more than overcame the physical limitations of cerebral palsy, which curled his hands, put him in a wheelchair and made public speaking a challenge.

Senator Berry will be missed by many. Despite his physical challenges he has always been there for the people of the 2nd Essex District. I was at the charity event last night when he announced this. The crowd's reaction was quite touching.

This will be a "so long" moment - not goodbye. I doubt that Fred Berry could stop doing the good works that he has always done.

1. Wow! And I never heard of the guy. I'm surprised I didn't know of him.
