BRAINTREE —

The start of the nation’s first tax revolt will be re-enacted Sunday.

The adoption of “The Braintree Instructions” by town meeting on Sept. 24, 1765, was the first protest against the taxes imposed on colonists under the British Parliament’s Stamp Act.

The resolution was written by a young Braintree lawyer named John Adams, who went on to become the nation’s second president.

The re-enactment will be presented at the church, 12 Elm St., starting at 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission will be free.

For more information, call the church office at 781-843-3616 or the historical society at 781-843-1640, or visit the church’s website at www.firstchurchbraintree.org.
