After sparring on cable TV and in campaign fliers during a heated campaign, incumbent state Rep. Christine Canavan and Matthew Albanese kissed each other on the cheek on Tuesday night.

That’s after Canavan, an 18-year state representative, beat Albanese by 136 votes to become the Democratic candidate for the 10th Plymouth District seat.

The former rivals put their differences aside and now have one goal: for Canavan to beat Republican John Cruz of West Bridgewater in November. It will be the third time they have battled for the seat.

“Whatever role she’d like me to have, I’m happy to support her,” Albanese, 38, of West Bridgewater, said moments after he conceded before Canavan supporters at the Polish White Eagle Club in Brockton on Tuesday night.
