Casino at Suffolk Downs? Heaven help us on the North Shore.
I'm not talking about the merits of gambling. That is of no interest to me. What does concern me is the traffic going into Boston. It is horrible now, Bell Circle is a menace, the strip to the airport is always busy. Too many roads join in the area. Even at off hours, the route to Logan is busy.

Can you imaging trying to get to Boston, South of Boston or to Logan Airport with the huge influx of traffic coming and going to a Casino? To add insult to injury, there is talk of placing slot machines at Wonderland. That would make things even worse.

If the state wants to OK Casino gambling, why not put these facilities in areas that are less trafficked. Some spot where the roads are better and that will not drive the commuters crazy.

In the quest for revenue, the state is giving no thought to those of us who have no other route to get where we are going.

1. Take heart. This is only the preliminary stage. When a final
decision is made and a casino at Suffolk is on the drawing table, consumer groups from EB and Revere will be very active to deal with traffic patterns. We are talking years, not months. My feeling is the tank farms and surrounding wetlands will all but stop any casino from being built there. The tanks aren't going anywhere and because of wetlands, I think the plans will be hampered where they can build. I'd like to see the plans to see where they envision the casino going in because along Winthrop Ave. seems like the only choice. I'm not sure what the track owns along 1A outside the access to the track. Entertainment is a big part of casinos and you are right that on those nights when 10 thousand are all headed to a show at once the surrounding roads will be a nightmare. And the surrounding neighborhoods will take a beating using the many access roads around the main roads to get to the same place. And Bell Circle should have been blown up many years ago.
