Ted Kennedy's Nephew Endorses Capuano, Questions Coakley's Ambition
Ted’s kin: Michael Capuano’s our man

Questions Coakley’s ‘ambition’

By Hillary Chabot

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

<snip>.

“I’m supporting him {Mike Capuano} because I think he’s the person in the race who’s most like my Uncle Ted,” {Ted Kennedy's nephew, Stpehen}Smith said.

Smith said he’s unsure whether Joseph P. Kennedy II plans on weighing in, but said the Citizen’s Energy CEO has repeatedly praised Capuano. Another Kennedy family friend said the former congressman wants his son to take over Capuano’s seat - another reason for him to back Capuano."

“She {Coakley} set up a committee six months before my uncle died. There were people on the corner with a huge ‘Coakley for Senate’ sign two days after his funeral,” said Smith, 51, the son of Sen. Kennedy’s sister Jean Smith. “In terms of the ambition, she’s certainly got that.”

Ouch.

NOTE: In the above quote,I moved around the paragraphs so that things about Capuano are together, with the comment about Coakley coming later. It just seemed less disjointed that way. But, you can check out the original paragraph order at the above link.

1. And now, the Herald labels Scott Brown Democrat?
Edited on Sun Oct-04-09 07:42 AM by Mass
Is it an attempt to help him, as is using the one sentence in the article attacking the Democratic frontrunner in this race as the lead in for the story.

I only have one comment: It will not help Scott Brown win this election. It will belong to a Democrat. Whether it is Coakley, the frontrunner, Capuano, or Kasei remains to be seen. Hopefully, it will not be the other candidate, who is still trying to buy the election.

2. Nice catch! Thatt's similar to Faux's putting a (D) after the name of naughty Pubs.
People assume, I guess, that being a Democrat will help anyone running in Massachusetts, and being a Republican will hurt.

Thanks for that. I missed it until you pointed it out, but here's what it says: "Sen. Scott Brown (D-Wrentham) and Canton selectman Bob Burr will face off on the Republican ticket."

In otther words, it makes no sense a all.

Most of the time, Republicans in my area (Boston) just don't mention party affiliation at all. Even Democrats have started doing that.

When Aaron Michelwitz ran in a special election to fill the House seat vacated by former Speaker DiMasi, he made no mention of his affiliation. Then, the Regional Review or some smaller, local publication like that, erroneously identified Aaron as a Republican on the day of the primary. I knew he had worked for DiMasi, so I was shocked to see the (R) after his name. Luckily, I double checked before I voted in the primary,. He won anyway, though.

Shows to go ya, be proud of the Blue brand, especially if you are running in Boston "proper."

3. Bumping so pics remind us whose seat we are voting today to fill. Of the four Democrats running .

today, three--Pag, Khazei and Capuano-- have claimed to be like Kennedy, but only one, Capuano, actually voted with Ted Kennedy against the Iraq War and against the Patriot Act. And only one candidate, Coakley, has purposefully distanced herself from Ted Kennedy.

4. Last minute desperate smear attempt!!!! See above
None of the immediate Kennedys have weighed in. Martha has the support of the policemen and several unions! We need a leader beholdent to none in Washington DC, one that does not vote for blank checks to large financial institutions, and one who will be proactive in making small businesses a priority. Thats Martha Coakley. If it were Mike Capuano wed already have those results.

If the Kennedys were enthusiastic about endorsing Capuano theyd have done it a long time ago.
