Tsunami *TEST* warning to be broadcast at 9 a.m. Today
Tsunami test warning to be broadcast at 9 a.m.

SOUTH DENNIS — A regionwide tsunami warning test will be broadcast on television and radio stations at 9 a.m. today as part of an international test co-sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program.

Dennis Police Chief Michael Whalen wants members of the public to be prepared for the test in order to avoid police and fire dispatchers from being overwhelmed by 911 calls.

The bulletins will be marked as "Test Message" as they are broadcast, but public safety officials suspect some people may not notice that advisory.

NOAA defines a tsunami as a series of ocean waves caused by sudden displacements in the sea floor, caused by earthquakes, landslides, or volcanic activity.

5. Yep, that's what the paper said....
IMPORTANT: Tsunami Alert Test to take place Thursday, April 2 at 9 a.m.

Local Police Departments would like to remind all Cape Cod residents that NOAA will be conducting a test of the TSUNAMI Alert System on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 9 a.m. A test bulletin, which will clearly be marked "test message" will be issued through tsunami warning communication channels.

Residents should not be alarmed when they hear the tsunami test messages broadcast on television and radio at 9 a.m.

The exercise is intended to test the region's communication and response plans to help communities prepare for a tsunami. The test is co-sponsored by NOAA and the US National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program.
