Brockton mayor hires former Worcester mayor as campaign consultant

By Maria Papadopoulos, Enterprise staff writer

BROCKTON— With less than a month until the Nov. 6 election, Mayor James E. Harrington is getting advice from a former Worcester mayor. Harrington confirmed Tuesday that he has hired Raymond V. Mariano as a consultant on his campaign to be re-elected.

<snip>

“You only bring a consultant in within the last few weeks of the campaign unless something is troubling you or there are some serious concerns about the direction of your campaign,” said Michael Kryzanek, a political science professor at Bridgewater State College.

<snip>

Mariano “is probably providing advice on how Harrington can present himself as an effective mayor, not so much about campaigning or getting the vote out or organizing the neighborhoods, but how he can present himself,” Kryzanek said.

Mariano was hired as executive director of the Worcester Housing Authority in December 2002 after a controversial search process that some saw as tilted in his favor, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

This Bickford's Restaurant has been boarded-up and empty for over a year now, courtesy of Mayor Harrington's amazing financial program, that appears to mostly be aimed toward revitalizing Brockton's plywood industry.

Because how can you possibly have a successful pancake restaurant within walking distance of a high school, fair grounds, convention center and baseball stadium?

The placement of this sign also demonstrates that Harrington was born without an "Irony Gene."
