MA Governor Deval Patrick to endorse Obama
Patrick to endorse Obama over Clinton in presidential race

By Glen Johnson, AP Political Writer | October 17, 2007

BOSTON --Gov. Deval Patrick, a one-time Clinton administration official, has decided to endorse Barack Obama over rival Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Democratic presidential primary campaign.

Patrick plans to make his declaration next Tuesday during a rally with the Illinois senator in Boston, according to an e-mail Patrick sent to his supporters on Wednesday.

1. Deval overestimates the importance of his endorsement.
The Governor of Massachusetts is little more than an ornament, and even so Patrick has done very little shining so far. He begged Bill Clinton to come campaign for him, and now he stabs the Clintons in the back? How nice...

3. Actually the endorsement of any sitting governor is a big step.
I'm not personally voting for the man, unless he wins the primary. A little while back Thomas Menino (Mayor of Boston) pledged his support for Hillary (not a surprize) and he was merely doing his politicking as well. As for the state itself, his endorsement is an important foothold into Massachusetts, which is typically pro-Hillary. It makes sense to lob a few cannon balls at the enemy's castle walls if you want to beat them.

2. Good for him! He knows the Clintons well, so that he does not endorse her should tell us a lot.

4. I got one of those Emails....
Dear Friends,

The upcoming presidential election is vitally important. Our current fiscal policies have resulted in staggering debt for our grandchildren to repay. Health care costs and quality are impeding the competitiveness of American industry. From gun and gang violence to immigration reform to climate change to the war in Iraq to the response to Katrina, our faith in the ability of government to be a force for positive change has been shaken. We face hard choices in the years ahead, because not just national policy but the national character is at stake.

As a Democrat, I am proud that the field of Democratic contenders is so strong. Many are friends and colleagues with whom I have worked over the years. But frankly, I believe the importance of this election transcends friendships and party. I believe we need unifying, visionary leadership. I believe we need a President who will level with the American people. I believe we need Barack Obama.

On Tuesday, October 23 in Boston, Barack and I will rally supporters of his campaign for president. Please join us. Share his passion, his vision and our cause. Let’s bring about real change by putting American values back into American government.

Hoping to see you there,

P.S. Please visit http://www.barackobama.com/boston to let us know that you can join us on Tuesday.
