West Nile Virus detected in bird found in Marlborough
BOSTON -- For the first time this season, West Nile Virus has been detected in a dead bird in Massachusetts.

The bird was collected in the city of Marlborough.

There have been no human cases of West Nile Virus or Eastern Equine Encephalitis in Massachusetts this year. The diseases can be transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes.

There were three cases of West Nile Virus in the Bay State last year, none fatal.
