Maryland Progressive Summit -- January!
The Maryland Progressive Summit 2005 will be held at the Loews Annapolis Hotel on Saturday, January 8th from 9-noon. To register, go to http://www.energizethebase.com. It's $16 (including a box lunch) if you pre-register, or $20 at the door, but I think it "sold out" last time.

They haven't announced speakers yet, but I would imagine that it will be worth attending. The first one (held this October) was certainly well worth it. To get an idea of what you can probably expect, take a look at the agenda from the October summit, under "Past Summits" on the site linked above. In addition to the planned speakers/panels, Barbara Mikulski also made a surprise appearance. Martin O'Malley and Doug Duncan both spoke as well -- I think they were on the agenda, but I don't see them listed as it appears on the site. Oh, and I'm sure that the new state party chair, Terry Lierman, will speak, so that in itself is probably reason to attend!

Hope to see some of you there!!

1. Del. Peter Franchot
is a major organizer of the summit. He will also be running against Schaeffer for Comptroller. I've known Peter for some time. He's a great candidate and Schaeffer must be taken out.

2. I didn't know much about Peter Franchot...
Until I heard him speak at the summit in October. I was very impressed, and continue to be, the more I read/hear about him (including his recent "open letter" to Ehrlich). And I agree 100% that we must get rid of Schaeffer. Just thinking about him turns my stomach.

3. Peter is a great guy
I used to help him raise money. He's got a great family. His wife worked in the Clinton Administration. He's not completely liberal on everything, but he's a great Democrat. He will fight for working people, stop the bullship the land deals, and fight to put a stop to crony capitalism in Maryland. And he's not afraid to take a stand on anything. He represents Takoma Park and Silver Spring in the House of Delegates.
