Progressive Pages- Need your feedback!
I just visited DancingBear's thread about wanting to come up with a directory of Repuke businesses to boycott and provide decent progressive alternatives for folks.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2587076&mesg_id=2587076&page=

I'd like to help any way I can to compile this book.

Here's what I need from ya'll:

Give me the names and approximate locations of any local MD businesses you saw the last year or so with Bush/Cheney signs outside, behind the counters or in windows. Any "I support President Bush and our troops?" or anything equivalent?

Alternately, provide the names and approximate addresses of progressive or Democratic owned or Democratic-supporting businesses you can recommend instead.

Let us know about good AND bad experiences you've had patronizing good or bad businesses all over the state!

Thanks everybody!
Let's hear em!

1. Here's two I can give you right off the bat...
Egyptian Pizza at Valley Village in Owings Mills has had Kerry Edwards signs in their restaurant window and bumper stickers behind the counter for months. They have great food, too!!

On the other side...
Mendelsohn Printing and Graphics in Reisterstown is owned by a repug who drinks the kool aid big time.

As I get more, I'll let you know.

3. Breathe Bookstore in Hamden is another Kerry supporter (m)
Although, the owner was threatening to move to Canada if Kerry lost, so I'm not sure what will happen now.

Every litte bit helps.

4. Great American Car Wash in Severna Park
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 11:36 AM by GrapesOfWrath
(Anne Arundel County). Big-time repugs... Owner, Richard Hug donated $30,000 to the RNC and $2,000 to the Chimp. They displayed a huge Chimp/Cheney sign next to their business.

Here's another link, if you guys want to help.

Look up your zipcode (s), and take note of any local business owners, good or bad. Add them to the list.

Gracias!

8. Thanks Deb--
Do you have any other info? What town? Address?

And what is our evidence of their Shrubbery? Signs out front? Pic behind the counter?

Thanks for any extra information you can give us.

9. They're all over the place in MD...
Inner Harbor, Harborplace, Annapolis, Towson, White Marsh, Owings Mills.

I went out to that website you had posted to search for contributors. CEO donated to shrub and RNC.

11. Decent progressive alternatives
can be found here: http://www.coopamerica.org/
They have a database of businesses and how they stack up with regard to important issues. For the most part, you won't find strong rethuglican supporters with great environmental/human rights records.

I'm finding that it's easier to find and support earth-friendly, socially cognizant businesses than it is to try to determine which giants to boycott. I also use their catalog, "National Green Pages", to find businesses I can support in good conscience.

For groceries, check out My Organic Market (MOM) which has stores in Rockville, College Park, and either Arlington or Alexandria (I can't remember which).

13. Keeping it kicked!
The Progressive Pages are really starting to groove with all sorts of new information in multiple states!

Please help us out by providing any local businesses you can think of, good or bad. And make sure to specify which one they are when you post them!

Thanks!
