Maryland lawmakers raise minimum wage by $1
Yesterday, January 17, Democrats in the Maryland Senate approved a $1 increase in the state's minimum wage from $5.15 (the federal minimum wage) to $6.15. The bill was approved in the House of Delegates last week.

Unfortunately it won't do much to help lift the state's lowest-paid workers out of poverty, given the high cost of housing and other necessities in Maryland. But it's a start.

The votes in both houses were sufficient to override vetoes by Gov. Bobby Haircut Ehrlich.

I'm happy to say that this is the second override of an Ehrlich veto in the past week. Democrats also overrode a veto of a bill designed to force Wal-Mart and other large state employers to pair their fair share of employee health care costs.

Maryland's Democrats are kicking Ehrlich's ass, and I'm proud of them.

1. That is great news.
I had assumed they would override, but having it actually happen is better than assuming. Thanks

2. they also overrode
two election related bills. We'll have early voted and there was also a measure dealing with voter intimidation.

3. Wow, early voting! That's awesome.
Just shows how poorly the WashPost covers Annapolis.
