My prediction: If we don't get race out of the headlines...
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 10:09 AM by nickshepDEM
We will lose a U.S. Senate seat in 2006. This is driving me crazy. The actions of one blogger from NY and one nutty state senator has completely changed the dynamics of this race, and the Steele camp is LOVING IT. They know they cannot beat any of the Democratic candidates on the issues. Steele is anti-choice, pro-war, pro-Bush, pro-Rove, etc. Dont take my word for it, here is Mr. Steele's exact quote:

Yesterday, Steele expressed several of those views, describing himself as a "pro-life Roman Catholic," a supporter of the Iraq war and a fan of the president's, even if he recognizes that Bush "has a numbers problem right now."

But so long as race remains the prime issue in this race, we will continue to lose support among African Americans and reasonable Whites who are fed up with the unnecessary attacks. Steele is already pulling around 18% of the af-american vote according to the latest Gonzels Research Poll. We cannot afford for this # to go much higher. How do we knock it down? Get race out of the headlines for starters. After that, pin down Steele on where he stands on the issues. Like I said, pro-war, pro-Bush, and anti-choice. After that I wanna' know where he stands on Social Security, Organized Labor, Affordable Health Care, Sky Rocketing College Tuition Rates, etc. Not where he stands on the color of his skin. We know that already, he's a black Republican, get over it.

1. Having Mfume as our nominee would help a lot.
It seems there was a bit of stink about some black democratic politicians stating the obvious, that Steele does not represent to views of most black people. The Sun article had them all condemning the blackface caricature. Mfume was quite clear.

I know what the current polling shows, but I think that when it all comes down, there is a far higher probability of black voters going for Steele or not voting for a Senate candidate at all if Cardin is our nominee. It will also help if there are other blacks running for statewide office, especially since I think Ehrlich will have difficulty finding another black runnig mate.

However, I truely believe the Steele camp is eating this up. If they can play the victim and avoid talking about the issues it plays right into their hands.

I disagree that people arent paying attention. Its hard to avoid this topic when its making the headlines and nightly news day after day. Heck, it was on Hannity and Colmes last night. The few people Ive questioned regarding the attacks have stated they are rather disgusted. They are seriously misinformed too. They believe that the Democratic candidates are the ones behind the attacks.

4. We'll get this taken care of
its an early mistake by a couple of idiots. When Cardin is on tv, they'll see a Jewish Paul Sarbanes and vote for him.

5. lot of hot air
I don't think this is going anywhere. The WashTimes story has been repudiated by the Democratic interviewees who explained how they were misquoted.

I think Steele/RNC are making what they can out of this NOW, and which will turn out to be a distant memory come November 2006 . . .

6. Greetings from NJ
Believe it or not, the Washington Times article on Steele and the "oreo pelting" is causing a commotion on a local blog here in northern NJ, where we are in the middle of a nasty governor's race. This is the pertinent section of the blog:

http://www.baristanet.com/barista/2005/11/corzine_predict.html#comments

Some of the freepers that post comments to this blog are pointing to the article as proof of Democratic racism. Can anyone provide links that would assist in showing that this is again the moonie times throwing red meat to freepers? Thanks - Mazie
