Mayor O'Malley Campaigns in Hometown in Montgomery Co., MD
O'Malley on the march in Montgomery
by Noelle Barton
Gazette Staff Writer

June 24, 2005
He even pointed out his childhood barbershop. That's how much Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley wants to remind people in Rockville that, hey, he grew up there. O'Malley visited the city on Wednesday to meet with Mayor Larry Giammo, taking him up on an offer to visit Montgomery's county seat. The visit served an additional purpose for O'Malley. Facing a likely Democratic gubernatorial primary contest with Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, another Rockville native, he is spending more time in the county to re-establish his ties to a voter-rich part of the state.

I didn't know till I read this that O'Malley grew-up in Montgomery County.

1. I remember reading that a while back.
I hate to see Mayor Martin leave Baltimore, but I really want Ehrlich the hell out of Annapolis!

2. You & me, both! I'd Vote for a Lame Dem Duck, first!
Ehrlich, like our Prez is the absolute worst Gov. ever!

3. Ehrlich
I've been living in Illinois for several years, and I used to post on Illinois DU, which is why I call myself Baltimore (scarcely a distinctive name in Md.) I remember Spiro T. Agnew, and I'm curious to know how people rate him on the "bad" index as opposed to Ehrlich.

4. I'm a native Texan...
but, surely, Anew didn't BEGIN to be a criminal sleazoid only after he became Nixon's VP.

5. Agnew
was corrupt, but more progressive as Governor. In fact, the only reason he got elected was because the Dem Nominee was a racist.

7. What I Meant was that Nothing Compares to What The Repuks
Are doing in these times... as compared to back then, in Agnew days.

That's what I meant... sorry. Up late. Agnew was a criminal and so was Nixon... now, if we can just get the rest of the Repuks out of main power, maybe we'll have a fighting chance.

Sorry about that.

11. Agnew
I'm a displaced Marylander, and I do remember Agnew being a blankety-blank when he was governor of Maryland, and I do remember George Mahoney, who I hope to God was the last Dixiecrat to ever show his face in Maryland.

15. Dixiecrats
Sorry to hear it. Are they the ones the Southern Poverty Law Center calls "Neoconfederates?" They have a list of hate groups in all the states, and in Maryland one of them was the Neoconfederates, an expression I never heard when I was growing up in Maryland.

16. I don't know who was behind the latest round of hate literature.
But I could guess the type. There is still a lot of that "good ole boys" attitude around here, even within the active members of the party. It is slowly dying out though, the area is diversifying more and more and the younger generation of the party down here (I am one of them) is so NOT like that!

6. Agnew Didn't Cause "US" any pain, only himself.
I remember most actually felt bad for Agnew. He harmed himself more then our state.

Compared to Agnew, Ehrlich is the Devil's advocate and Agnew has wings.
