Stolen dogs, gunshots raise suspicion of dog-fighting ring in western Maine

WEST PARIS, Maine — Last month, Kyle Kilgore returned to his West Paris home after a few hours away to find one of his two dogs missing.

Avy, a 2½-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier, had been tied up in the front yard of his West Paris home. Her lead appeared to have been severed with bolt cutters.

Avy sometimes got loose and ran to the neighbors’ house, but the neighbors hadn’t seen her. A week later, a woman in Hartford found Avy’s body dumped on her lawn, wrapped in a tarp.

“They put her in a bag, wrapped her in a tarp, zipped the tarp shut and wrapped the cable around her,” Kilgore said. Avy was still wearing her collar.

1. Not to blame the victim
but WTH, and why the hell, would someone tie their animal up in the front yard and then leave it. It's a safety factor in more than one way, apparently.

Too sad. Dog fighters are heinous criminals.

3. I do agree with you
I don't think dogs should be tied up like that at all, and especially left tied unsupervised. Worth it to invest in a pen.

2. Dog fighting
Dog fighting should carry MAJOR penalties under the law. MAJOR! Stealing someone's pet to kill it like this should carry major penalties also.

I can't even describe the rage I felt reading this. At least not without upsetting moderators. There may be a time, if dogfighting keeps spreading and people's pets are stolen to fuel this disgusting evil, that people might need to start taking care of these monsters themselves. I don't see how our system is doing anything to stop these creatures as it is. It should destroy someone's life forever to even be caught at a dog fight. They should be considered a felon for the rest of their lives.

5. West Paris?
Maybe the West Paris militia got bored.
Stupid wankers. :/

Being from South Paris myself, we always knew that West Paris was a little off. The kids from West Paris? Strange ones, they were.

Seriously though, if these idiots get caught, there in for a heap of trouble.
Poor doggy. :(
