how do you feel about the new fireworks law?

I have mixed feelings about the new fireworks bill. I wonder if the law should have included a supervision law age limit. For instance no child under 16 or 14 etc. allowed to use them without adult supervision.
I was 14 when they were outlawed in maine; I was allowed to use all the fireworks I had gotten via the mail in a kit form except the m-80's ,the cherry bombs, and the large aerial bombs.
I remember it was a family oriented affair every evening from the 3rd of july till we ran out. why the town never burnt down was a mackerel! the sky was lit up for hours. and each family tried to out do the other. I can remember no accidents involving children or adults in the village I lived in. So my memories are positive about them. I also knew if I disobeyed my parents I would get my butt kicked and lose any fireworks I had left.
Hopefully the parents of today will watch over their childern like ours did.

1. I agree with allowing fireworks up to a point. I also agree there should be some common sense
regulations with the law such as supervision, age limits, limits on types that can be sold (which I think IS in it), where and how they can be used (shouldn't be able to set off fireworks in the middle of the public square, or all night long keeping people awake, etc.), can't use them while intoxicated, etc. It's going to be a bit of a pain in the butt though for local cops to enforce with so much else to do. But I do think many of the old laws such as this that came out over a panic with the fires of the 1940's should be eased up. In Indiana, you can buy limited fireworks in the Walmarts. I did, and we set them off safely with us adults supervising. No problem. If we can buy guns, ammo, tobacco, and liquor as freely as we do within limits, we should be able to handle limited fireworks.

6. fireworks bill

thank you for the info. glad to see those restrictions! now if they are enforced it may save some fingers.
I guess we will just have to wait and see.
as I respond to this they are firing fire crackers in my neighborhood. last night at long lake in bridgton their were no less than a dozen shore front areas that were shooting off
mucho fireworks. My grandkids enjoyed this private showing almost as much as the display in naples!
so much for enforcement! this has been going on the thirty years I have been on the lake!

5. Terrible....
Well, I know that LePage ran on taking the state Back-asswards. But there are a lot more inconsiderate people and a much higher population density than there were the last time they were legal here. Last night (the 4th) the meth-heads down the street were shooting off bottle rockets till 2 AM. Can't wait until next year when they're allowed to buy 1/2 sticks of dynamite...

7. Did you call the cops and file a report for disturbing the peace? The law was not yet in effect, and
I don't think it allows bottle rockets (but check). They are obviously going to do it whether legal or not, and they already have for YEARS. Same with booze, tobacco, etc. Can't totally outlaw everything. Limited fireworks with regulations should be legal. Hell, sparklers already are, and they are DANGEROUS, can cause burns, fires, etc. Bikes, skateboards, Razor scooters, etc. cause plenty of injuries. Do we outlaw them? If they are disturbing the peace, REPORT THEM TO THE COPS.
