3. very heavy turnout at my poll
Parking lot overflowing, with cars parked all along the drive. Very much like in '08. My village is very, very red and has the honors of hosting the Lincoln County GOP. I was there at about 5:45pm. Outside there were two petitions going on. The equality in marriage person ran out of forms -- I signed the second to the last one. She said it had been this busy all day. The protection services for children petitions was very busy too.

4. Seemed pretty busy at my polling place, although I went earlier than I have in years past so
it's not a true comparison in my case. But busy is good, none the less. :)

5. I usually go early in the day to get my vote in fast
but my schedule worked the other way this time. So I wasn't sure how the turnout compared. I was glad to overhear the petition person say it had been the same way all day... :D

Big turnout worked well 2 years ago. fingers crossed for this time around...so much at stake.

6. I'm nervous too. I'm terrified of LePage
I went early in the morning, and it seemed pretty quiet, but I ran into a number of Democratic friends who told me they went for Cutler because they (like me) think that Libby can't win.

It's an astonishing thing, to think that Maine could elect someone that 51% of us have a strongly negative opinion of!

7. I say you and I and anyone else who is sick of
voting against candidates instead of for them push for approval voting in stead of plurality voting. Baldacci was open to IRV but election officials were against it and the money just wasn't there to get it started. But maybe we can get approval voting through more easily provided research doesn't prove it to be run-off prone.

I just wish it would tell us which towns have reported.

So far Cutler is doing surprisingly well.

12. Ha! Ha! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
"In the First District, which runs from the New Hampshire border to Augusta, Me., Dean Scontras’s message about the need for fiscal responsibility appeared to be hitting home in his race against Representative Chellie Pingree, a Democrat and first-term incumbent who was considered vulnerable by Republican strategists."

What drugs are they on? I want some. Chellie *creamed* Scrontas.

Fingers crossed that Cutler stays ahead. 6 point lead could be a lot worse, but considering what's at stake it's not enough to give me any warm and fuzzies. :scared:

zero support to begin with! I'm keeping my fingers crossed, too. Hang on, Cutler!

It's all up to the northern areas now; we are officially screwn.

21. Don't know if you all noticed, but you might want to check the state Senate
My count is 19 GOP 15 Dem 1 IND
House is still Democratic, for now. Dems +8 with 22 races either too close to call or unreported.

I want to move.

22. Primal Scream....
NOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

I got up this morning to find that LePage is very likely our Governor and the State Senate and House (now that's the shocker for me- the State House) have gone R. We now have no one to balance out LePage.

My only solace is that Chellie and Mike Michaud (even though he's a bluedog) have hung on.

Oh. My. God. :grr:....:scared:

25. Right now it looks like it's tied
73-73-1 with 4 races to go.

Aside from the obvious, this is important for redistricting. If the GOP takes both chambers they can redraw the districts. Look for them to try to draw a boundary to shift liberal votes from District 2 to 1...say by putting Lewiston/Auburn in CD1 and putting the more conservative coastal counties in CD2. If they do that, Mike Michaud is a major target. On the other hand, CD1 will be forever blue.

23. Woke up to a nightmare. No final declaration, but
I think we've lost.

It turned into Northern/Western Maine against coastal/southern Maine. Which means, the poorer parts of the state (who are anti-taxes and want budget cuts, yet get the most state assistance services) voted to screw themselves.

As a liberal coastal Mainer, whose taxes end up going to support northern/western Maine LePage voters, maybe it's time to give those LePage supporters what they asked for.

I don't see how Cutler can catch up given the districts that are still outstanding.

26. House: 70D, 74R, 1I, 6 too close/unreported
Looks like the Tea Party will own both Houses and the Blaine House.

Which programs will they kill first?
