Judge sets bail in Bangor sex attack, burning
Being drunk doesn't excuse this.

A woman from First Street who admitted to police that she sexually assaulted a 43-year-old male back in November while he was passed out, and then burned him with microwave-heated water, made her first appearance in court on Wednesday.

Laura M. Smith, 27, who lived at 24 First St. until a week or so ago, appeared in Bangor District Court on charges of elevated aggravated assault and gross sexual assault.

2. She's 27??!!
She looks like twice as old as that! How does that happen - is it malnutrition or something?

5. Several factors
Fetal alcahol syndrome would explain a lot of it - her face kind of has the pinched look typical to that. Heavy drinking is particularly unkind to the fairer sex in terms of malnutrition and alcaholic gastritis causing anemia. She may have never had a GOOD hair day, and that blank/hostile expression is certainly not flattering. And she is probably hiding bad teeth.
My mom was in the jury on a similar case in NH - but "sis" bled to death, so her psycho creep brother got convicted of murder.

6. She's not FAS
She's a meth head.
The teeth, the hair, the skin, the pathological lack of morality....

3. Completely tangential, but what's the difference between elevated aggravated assault and
"simple" aggravated assault?

§208. Aggravated assault

1. A person is guilty of aggravated assault if he intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causes:
A. Serious bodily injury to another; or
B. Bodily injury to another with use of a dangerous weapon; or
C. Bodily injury to another under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life. Such circumstances include, but are not limited to, the number, location or nature of the injuries, the manner or method inflicted, or the observable physical condition of the victim.

§208-B. Elevated aggravated assault

1. A person is guilty of elevated aggravated assault if that person:
A. Intentionally or knowingly causes serious bodily injury to another person with the use of a dangerous weapon;
B. Engages in conduct that manifests a depraved indifference to the value of human life and that in fact causes serious bodily injury to another person with the use of a dangerous weapon; or
C. With terroristic intent engages in conduct that in fact causes serious bodily injury to another person.

Aggravated assault is a Class B crime, elevated aggravated assault is a Class A crime

4. Bumped to the Maine forum? Someone with mod powers is tripping.
We can read about all other manner of horrific local crime in GD, but this one gets bumped to a state forum? Any reason, other than that the female perp makes the story uncomfortable to the "women can do no wrong" contingent? I expect their "what did he do to deserve it?" posts any time now. If they're from Maine. :eyes: <-- that one's for you, mods.
