Daily Kos polling results in Maine - Healthcare/gay marriage
First, the really good news:

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/9/18/783903/-Some-News-for-the-Maine-Twins:-They-Love-the-Public-Option-Back-Home

I agree with Kos that, whatever plan gets through for a vote, Snowe and Collins will be there. Then, I suspect that they'll have to make a move...maybe join the Party of Joe as independents. Otherwise, they get primaried out.

Next the not so good:

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/9/18/783757/-ME-Init:-Gay-marriage-all-tied-up,-heading-into-November

Whoever can turn out their base will win it...a shame that this didn't get on the ballot in 2008.

1. No chance of either losing a primary...
...I would expect non-trivial numbers of Democrats to change registration just to keep Snowe, who routinely receives majorities in the 30% range, and a near-majority of the Democratic vote.

2. Really? I've met her and really think she's a pretty decent person.
That said, I wouldn't be motivated to do a primary switch, just so we can help ourselves lose in the GE. I know I'm not your typical Democrat and maybe if she votes for a public option she'll endear herself to many more Democrats. But the data says that Republicans will consider her a traitor...can she get more motivated Democrats to vote for her in the primary than motivated Republicans to defeat her? Doubtful.

Maybe she'll pull a Lieberman if she loses in the primary...that's probably her best option.

4. Call her office or use the link below
http://snowe.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=ContactSenatorSnowe.Email

It will be numbers that make the difference. call/mail early and often

And yup, If it had been on the ballot, it would have been game over! The repukes are going full out in this off year to get all the paranoid/biased turds to the polls. We need to keep the momentum from last year, and it ain't feelin good.
