A Republican's take on Maine's economic picture...
"I don't really believe that at this point people are having to choose between food and medicine and housing, and if they are it's because they made poor choices with their mortgages," (Republican) Bloomer said.

"I don’t see what’s wrong with the unemployment rate," Bloomer said. "It’s not that bad. I think the unemployment rate is mostly for people who don’t want to work anyways."

Brewer: Labor council head berates Bush's policy
By Tim Devaney
Tuesday, July 1, 2008 - Bangor Daily News

BREWER, Maine - Jack McKay, president of the Eastern Maine Labor Council, wants to see President Bush in black-and-white stripes and standing behind bars.

" should be put in jail for what he’s done to the American middle class," McKay said after a press conference Monday morning in Brewer, "and for the policies that he’s made."

Lois Bloomer, the Penobscot County chair for the Republican Party, was shocked by McKay’s statement.

"Good grief. That’s ridiculous," she said. "How can people blame the current situation entirely on the president? Many people and all of Congress . should be equally shared.

"I don’t really believe that at this point people are having to choose between food and medicine and housing, and if they are it’s because they made poor choices with their mortgages. You can’t blame that on the president," she said.

I received this missive from the Democratic Party this afternoon. If you are as outraged as I am about her statements, volunteer today at your local coordinated campaign office or IM me and I will find a contact person and number where you can sign up to volunteer.

1. Morons.
I make twice the average salary in Maine, my wife works part time, we have no car payments, almost no gasoline bills, no real debt to speak of, my health insurance is basically free through the company I work for. After all is said and done, we figured the cheapest option to get health insurance for my wife and son is, get this, around $1,400 a month. We can not afford that. Period.

Anyone who is not white collar and does not have healthcare provided for them, or subsidized by their employers or the government can not purchase health care in Maine, and that's a god damned fact. Period.

what an ass this gal is. We got our mortgage in 2001. 700 bucks a month. Over the past three years it has gotten increasingly difficult to keep up. We were smart with our money. As for health care, we are now on Mainecare with a co-pay, and we couldn't do it any other way at this point. My hubbie has no health insurance at work. Even though I could pick it up where I work it's too expensive.

It's the economy!

3. This is what really scares me
Edited on Fri Jul-04-08 05:27 PM by hatredisnotavalue
Last winter, my vet shut down all but three rooms of his house so he could heat it. My dentist shut his furnace off entirely and is heating with wood and he told me his house was very cold last winter. Both are professionals. What the heck is going on in this country? What the heck are the CNAs and clerks at the local CN Brown going to do if they can't afford to put a wood stove in their home? And don't get me started on health care. We now have $1200 in health care bills cause I am paying $900 a month for health care and I have a $5000 debuctible and I truly can't afford to pay these bills. And we are upper middle class.

edit for spelling

4. that 5000 deductible

that is a poor substitute for the 100% coverage of yester year. I hope you never have to use it.There are some major loop holes in the coverage.
the greedy 5% has ruined this country.
