TOM CONNOLLY - DID HE HELP OR HURT TABOR?
I was pretty disappointed with Tom Connolly today. I voted for him in 1998 (mostly out of protest) because I didn't like Angus, but his actions since then have been pretty erratic. The Bush OUI conviction in 2000 was a pretty nice October surprise, but I think it ended up backfiring by really energizing the conservative vote. Even though you have to admire his persistence, I'm not sure he did No on 1 folks any service today.

1. HE'S ALWAYS BEEN GOOD MEDIA

He's always played to the media,it seems to be his style. Did you see he had the lobsterman hat on later in the day. This is his trademark.
I'M sure he achieved his goal, including the arrest. The goal being "call attention to tabor"!
WAY TO GO TOM,HOPE IT HELPS!

2. No help
He was dressed as Osama bin Laden and carrying a plastic assault rifle and an anti-TABOR sign. Passersby saw him arrested at gunpoint. He did the anti-TABOR effort no favor at all with this. Makes us all look like nuts. Mary Adams must be dancing in the street. (Does she dance?)

6. No, it makes TOM and ONLY TOM look nuts. And Adams is nuts!
Tom has always been nutty like this and many Mainers know it. Give Mainers more credit. This guy has always been an excentric. I don't think it in any way tags all Democrats or all of those opposed to TABOR anymore than Mr. Napier, who is also VERY nutty, tags those who are for TABOR. And what of Mary Adams? She has called anti-TABOR Mainers
"pigs at the trough" that should be "swept out of the state." She also is nuts if she really believes TABOR was thought up around her kitchen table. TALK ABOUT WICKED NUTS!!

7. Osama *hearts* TABOR

It was just 5 short years ago that I sat in front of my TV watching people live decide it was better to jump 90 stories to their deaths instead of being burned alive.

To equate someone who supports TABOR which I don’t to bin Laden who was responsible for a direct attack on the USA which killed more people than Pearl Harbor, a wanton murderer and an enemy of the state to any US citizen (Democrats, Republicans liberals and conservatives alike) is grossly inappropriate and an affront to civilized society.

But what would one expect from this ass who 25 years ago dressed up as Hitler on Halloween just to get attention.

8. I Agree. And Chimp should have gotten Bin Laden, but...
I agree that what Connelly was VERY inappropriate. But he's nutty, and this just confirms his nuttiness. It doesn't hurt all Dems or the NO ON TABOR effort by any means. Mainers know what Connelly is about.
The idiocy lies with him and him alone. Now, it would have been nice if Chimp had gotten Bin Laden instead of bone-heading into the Iraq debacle.

(I understand Connelly, who is a lawyer, defended Pat LaMarche on one of her DWI incidents. If memory serves, she actually beat that case.
But if I'm not mistaken, she has more than one brush with the law because of DWI. Maybe someday she and Connelly will end up sharing a cell and toasting their reunion. Ya never know:)

9. I Agree
If he was going to run around in a costume with a toy gun to scare people then maybe dressing up as Dick Cheney in a hunting outfit might have been a better choice …

I don’t think it hurt anybody except himself. Anyone in this state with a prominent position or supporting a position with a recognizable name/face long ago distanced themselves from him and his behavior.

(Pat LaMarche was charged and convicted of OUI in 1997. She was charged again in 1999 where Connolly this time represented her and got the charges dismissed. They then tried to sue the police officer who arrested her and that too was dismissed.)

11. CBS News has noticed an AP story about this...
It's the top item in their "US" section right now. It seems like a local story to me, but I guess it's sexy enough for the national corporate news whores.
