Why are your two democratic senators to the right
I do understand that in order to be viable in Louisiana, one must be a little more socially conservative, but c'mon, do they have to move to the right on issues such as the environment, healthcare, social security, and trade.

Mary Landrieu:
LCV - 21%
APHA - 50%
ARA - 50%
CATO - 42%

John Breaux:
LCV - 11%
APHA - 50%
ARA - 30%
CATO - 58%

They deal a lot with voting patterns in Louisiana and how we made not be the South's Democratic holdout much longer - if we even are today.

I also read a line in Pat Frank's novel Alas, Babylon that said something pretty profound about the Republican shift. This is not exact because I don't have the book in front of me:

"Nations are like people. As they get old they get fat and rich and conservative. They spend all their energy trying to keep things the way they are. And that's against nature."

I guess we are just getting too fat and rich for our own good.
