Democrats trolling for a few good candidates

Many Kentucky Democrats have bristled for years over the party's lack of a strong crop of fresh, ambitious candidates who could rise through the elected ranks.

They typically rely on baseball analogies to describe this phenomenon, calling it a lack of a "deep bench," or a "weak farm system."

Perhaps that's never been as apparent as the upcoming 2006 election cycle -- although Democrats have pegged next year as a chance to turn the problem around.
