Woodford man posts count of dead soldiers
By Andy Mead
HERALD-LEADER STAFF WRITER

VERSAILLES - Many people have strong opinions about the war in Iraq. Wayne Scott also has a large front yard on a busy highway.

Scott's farm is on U.S. 60 near the Woodford-Franklin County line, between Versailles and Frankfort. State traffic counts show that more than 5,000 vehicles a day pass by.

They see red plywood drops of blood beneath the numbers, and two black oil barrels (Scott thinks Iraq's oil fields are the real reason the United States is there).

Off to the side of the numbers is a tattered American flag, at half staff. Some distance away is a large, faded yellow ribbon around a hundreds-of-years-old bur oak.

"It was a bad day to come out and put another pole in," he said. "I swear I don't want to put another pole in."
