Very Aggressive Effort To Convince Former Rep. Ken Lucas to run
Geoff Davis made some very nasty comments last week on the House floor, proving what a hack he is. It would be great if Ken Lucas ran again.

NKY SOURCE: Very Aggressive Effort To Convince Former Rep. Ken Lucas To Challenge Geoff Davis Underway

I just got off the phone with a prominent Northern Kentucky Democrat who tells me that a very aggressive effort is currently underway urging retired former Rep. Ken Lucas (D) to consider another run for his old congressional seat which is presently held by wing-nut Geoff Davis (R). Apparently, Lucas has been approached about the idea and has not closed the door to the possibility.

Local democrats are hoping that Rep. Ben Chandler (D), who grew very close to Lucas' during their year together in Congress (before Lucas retired), can help to convince Lucas to challenge Davis. In 2002, Lucas defeated Davis by nearly four points.

Aside from the disturbing comments that Davis has uttered publicly over the Iraq War debate, the growing distrust of President Bush and Republican congressional leadership makes many believe that the conservative Lucas would be well-received once again by voters.

Furthermore, with polls showing that Iraq War veteran Paul Hackett (D) is already leading incumbent Senator Mike DeWine (R-OH) by a 10 points, in a race likely to energize Democrats in the Cincinnati media market, and the fact that for the first time in 12 years the federal races in Kentucky will not include either a senate or presidential topping the ticket, the conditions would seem to greatly benefit Lucas in a rematch with Davis.

Stay tuned.
