Sept. Protest March in DC. Anyone from Kentucky going?
Any kind of car pooling in the works? How about housing in DC? Seriously thinking about going. Just thought I'd check and see if anyone in the area here is interested.

I've checked http://www.septemberACTION.org but see nothing for our area.

Road trip anyone?

2. i just got an email today about some buses going
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 04:01 AM by smurfygirl

I really want to go and haven't talked to hubby about it yet but if I do go I will probably go on the bus. Parking is too much trouble in DC. I imagine overnight accommodations will be outrageous like usual. That's is the only reason I would want my car so I can sleep in it or go camp somewhere. I went to dc in July. Flew into baltimore for 35 dollars on Southwest. Check their site and see if they have deals to BWI airport. You can train it in to DC from there and it's sometimes cheaper than driving. Anyway, here is the email I got. I'll let you know if I decide to go..

The two major antiwar coalitions that have initiated and organized for a massive anti-war March on Washington for September 24 have agreed to organize a joint rally followed by a joint march. Both coalitions will organize under their own banners, slogans, and with their own literature for the September 24 demonstration. The joint rally will begin at 11:30 am at the Ellipse in the front of the White House. We urge everyone around the country to unite and come out for the largest possible anti-war demonstration on September 24.

3. Smurfygirl - do you have a link to the info for buses leaving
from Louisville? I would love to ride the bus but I can drive (and can hold three more comfortably - but need to find info for staying in DC for the protest and meet-ups. I definitely want to meet up with other DUers while there.

4. here is some websites that should have some info on them.
For other actions and information relating to Louisville Area
peacemaking, see our web pages at http://louisvillepeace.org
and for a calendar of events for local justice groups see
http://east.our.calendars.net/louisvillepeace/loujustice

I hope this helps. You might want to contact someone from the louisville peace coalition. They should be able to give you some info and tell you where you can meetup with others you could also request to be put on their mailing list so you can stay up to date with what all they have going on.
Also, they are having a movie tommorow. If you go, you will meet alot of the people that will be going to DC. Here is the info on that.

The Reel Revolution Film Series
A project of the Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression presents

Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War
By Robert Greenwald, 2003, 87 minutes

Thursday, August 25th, 7 pm
The Kentucky Theatre
651 S. 4th Street

Filmmaker Robert Greenwald chronicles the Bush Administration's determined
quest to invade Iraq following the events of September 11, 2001. An impressive
roster of experts is assembled to provide a generally withering commentary on
the quality of evidence and possible motivations of the Neo-conservatives who
provided the momentum and muscle behind America's venture into preemptive war.
Among them are veteran CIA analysts and operatives, military officers,
diplomats, politicians, arms inspectors, and U.S. and British government officials.
The fig leaf of the possibility of an honest mistake on the matter of WMDs is
stripped away; what is left is the stark and disturbing anatomy of deliberate
deceit. Their analyses and conclusions are sobering, regardless of one's p
olitical affiliations.

This is an important film documenting exactly how the Bush administration
hoodwinked the American people into supporting an unnecessary war… a war that has
claimed tens of thousands of lives, and continues today.

Information will also be provided about the September 24th Massive
Mobilization in Washington, D.C. calling for an end to the war in Iraq. Organizers will
be on hand and fundraising ideas for transportation to/from the protest will be discussed.

Suggested donation $5-25; no one turned away for lack of funds.
Wheelchair accessible.
All proceeds support the work of the Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political
Repression; call (502) 558-3568 for more information.

5. I'd go but I'm very poor these days. I hope we have plans for those...
remaining behind in Louisville.

6. I am going! I've got my room (costing an arm and a leg!) and I
am driving up early on September 24th. I have space in my car if anyone is interested in hitching a ride.

Took me awhile to work out personal details like work, family, etc. but I am going. I'll say "hey" to all the DUers I meet for all the Kentucky DUers!

Understand there are two bus loads heading to DC from Louisville with a waiting list for people who want to go but waited too late. (Got my fingers crossed that enough will want to go they can fill a third bus. Hopefully I can meet up with them somewhere along the route.

My first protest march. Got a lot of protesting to work out of the system. Now on to deciding what signs to make.
