Council Passes Ordinance Allowing Sunday Package Liquor Sales

(LOUISVILLE) -- What some call an outdated and unfair law has been overturned in Louisville. It's a victory for liquor stores and distributors who had previously been denied liquor and wine sales on Sunday. Despite some opposition, the metro council gave the green light to change the law. WAVE 3 Investigator Connie Leonard has more.

<...>

There was little opposition to the measure, which passed with a 15-7 margin. And that's what has some folks scratching their heads.

<...>

But council members like Mary Woolridge, who represents a district where liquor stores dominate street corners, say the vote doesn't consider the consequences of giving people an extra day to buy liquor.

Woolridge says she fears Sunday will now mean loitering in liquor store parking lots, along with "loud music -- which sometimes is lewd music. People have to walk back and forth from church, and this is a great fear in District 3, where we have lots and lots of neighborhood liquor stores."

Cry me a river, Woolridge.
