"What we're seeing here is pure politics -- pure, down-dirty politics," Lewis said.

Lewis received $1,124 of the $86,124 that Kentucky and Southern Indiana lawmakers took in campaign contributions since 1996 from DeLay's political action committee, according to Federal Election Commission records.

So does Rep. Geoff Davis, R-4th District, said spokeswoman Jessica Towhey.

"Tom DeLay is being targeted in a partisan political attack from Democrats who fear his success in sustaining and adding to the Republican majority in the House," Towhey said.

Davis, elected last November, received $10,000 for his campaign from DeLay, on top of $10,000 for an unsuccessful race in 2002.
