Wes Clark fundraising for Andrew Horne, KY-03

Fighting in Kentucky with Andrew Horne

Andrew Horne never sought to be a politician. In fact, the Marine Reserve lieutenant colonel didn't consider it until his latest deployment to Iraq. There, he saw such blatant leadership failures by President Bush and his administration -- failures with life-or-death consequences -- that by the time he came back home, Andrew knew he must act.

Recently I briefed national political reporters along with Andrew on behalf of the nation's Democrats when President Bush visited Louisville to tout his so-called war on terrorism. Andrew, a seasoned veteran, showed he is thoughtful, well spoken and impassioned about the state of our union. Andrew leads by example and embodies the values that make America so special.

And that's why I'm excited to tell you that Andrew Horne is running for Congress in Louisville's 3rd District. Andrew rightly says that bad things happen when good people don't speak out. There is too much at stake for any of us to remain silent.

Support Andrew on his next mission: the US Congress. Contribute to his campaign through WesPAC's ActBlue page today!

As a Marine commander, a father and a courtroom lawyer, Andrew knows from experience that being a leader is a responsibility, not a privilege. His opponent, Anne Northup on the other hand, acting as a rubber stamp for a reckless administration, fails to represent the people and the needs of her community.

In Congress, Andrew will restore integrity and trust to our government, which is currently known more for its backroom deals with backdoor lobbyists, and late night talk show jokes at our expense, than for honesty and independence.

Andrew will oppose the disgrace of a federal budget -- a budget that goes against our moral priorities, robbing women, children, students and seniors of a necessary safety net while giving oil companies a tax break and no-bid contractors a handout.

Andrew is going to fight to ensure that tax cuts go first to those who need them and those who will put the money back into our economy -- not to big oil and drug companies.

Andrew is going to fight to make sure that we invest in our nation's future through public education, especially higher education.

Andrew is going to fight to give all Americans access to quality, affordable health care.

Andrew wants to weigh in the next time Congress debates whether to send our troops into another deadly battle -- especially if this administration takes up another war based on poor intelligence, without a plan and without proper support for our soldiers.

And Andrew will be the kind of representative who can silence those on the far right who continue to question our party's commitment to national security.

Support Andrew Horne's fight in Kentucky -- contribute to his campaign today!

Andrew is showing the people of Kentucky's 3rd District that he has the values, the leadership, and the hope to make them proud of his voice in Congress. Let's not let him fight this mission alone!

Sincerely,

Wes

1. Paul Hackett also supports Horne and will be in Louisville March 31
Join us for a Celebration of Service

Please join us in honoring Lt. Col. Andrew Horne of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve as we celebrate his lifetime of service to family, country and community.

Friday, March 31, 2006 7:00-8:30 PM
United Auto Workers Local 862 Hall
3000 Fern Valley Road
Louisville, Kentucky

Andrew, who served active duty in both Operation Desert and Operation Iraqi Freedom, will retire from the Marines on March 31, the 27th anniversary of his enlistment straight out of Pleasure Ridge Park High School. We are gathering to cheer him on his new path, speaking truth to power as a Democratic candidate for Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional District in Louisville!

Our special guest will be Marine reservist Paul Hackett, a Fighting Dem from Ohio. Andrew and Paul -- who gave a hilarious interview this week on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” -- are buddies who served together in Iraq, and now are taking the battle to Washington and the nation. Andrew and Paul are also Democratic veterans against the current war. Both, based on their experiences, believe Americans were lied to about the reasons for the invasion. And both witnessed the Bush administration’s failures on a massive, tragic scale.

Paul has recently joined the Board of Advisors of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America Political Action Committee (IAVA PAC). The PAC exists exclusively to help other Iraq and Afghanistan veterans seeking to continue their service through elected office.

Currently, not one person in Congress debating this war has served in it. The result has been a total lack of credibility on the issue to challenge the President. The war in Iraq affects all aspects of American life – from the economy to energy policy to our readiness to handle disasters like Hurricane Katrina or, God forbid, another terrorist attack. Only by charting a course for victory in Iraq that includes metrics for success that are tied to eventual drawdowns can we begin to adequately address the multitude of other issues facing our nation. That simply won’t happen until Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans serve in the halls of power.

We hope that you’ll join us for this special evening to stand and fight with these veterans and help them continue to serve their country.

For tickets, http://www.horneforcongress.com/ or call (502) 562-2288

The suggested contribution is $25.

2. I'm pretty surprised..
I'm pretty surprised to see how much positive publicity Horne has received. I was skeptical of him at first, but as I'm hearing more about him, I'm convinced that my reasons for being skeptical were WAY off base. I admit, I'm currently leaning towards Yarmuth personally, but I think Horne is about equal to Yarmuth really.

I think the good thing here is that for the first time in a long time (maybe ever?), we have not just one, but TWO good candidates running for the Democratic nomination here, and no matter who wins, the candidate in November won't be another one of these fake Democrats we've become accustomed to. I think no matter who wins, whether it is Yarmuth or Horne, it'll be sad to see the other one lose. I just hope they keep their campaigns against each other positive.

4. Got to send Anne back to her beloved private sector.
I'm a vet, I'll stand behind a fellow soldier. If he doesn't get the nod, I will accept that and close ranks behind the winning candidate. We must win.

I'm in the 6th, Ben Chandler's district. We lucked out.

We have some tough local races. We're going to work our asses off.

I'm up for a fight.

7. What business was that?
Between UK and Central Baptist, the Nicholasville rd corridor north of Southland drive has been scrubbed clean of human habitation.

Maybe she can be kept occupied writing letters to former bush administration members serving time in Federal prisons and the Hague.

5. I agree
that we're fortunate to have several good candidates running for the nomination. Personally I would be thrilled to have either one (Horne, Yarmuth, Moore) representing me in Congress.

I was also skeptical of Horne initially. After hearing him speak several times I'm convinced that he's the only one who can beat Northup in the election. I don't think we can take back the seat without winning the votes of independents and moderate Republicans. I agree with Horne when he identifies himself as Anne's worst nightmare. As much as I appreciate Yarmuth's writings and his position in the community, I don't view him as possessing the necessary cross-over appeal.

In any case I'm anxious to see all the candidates in action at the Metro Dems candidate fair in April http://www.metrodem.com/
