MEET THE CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATES anybody going?
AMERICA 2000+ FEBRUARY MEETING: MEET THE CONGRESSIONAL
CANDIDATES (from Brian Daly)

Tuesday, Feb. 28, 7 pm
Webster University – 1031 Zorn Avenue,
Suite 200, Louisville, KY

Four candidates are vying for this important position: Burrell
Farnsley, Andrew Horne, James Moore, and John Yarmuth. All have
important messages and each brings his own style to the job. Come
hear how they will defeat their Republican opponent and bring sanity
and honesty back to the U.S. Congress.

1. James Moore?
Who is James Moore? I've never heard of him... I've heard of Burrell Farnsley though, he seems to run in elections a lot and never gets past the primary, I know nothing else about him though.

I'm personally hoping Yarmuth gets the nomination, but I'm okay with Horne getting the nomination too. I was a bit worried about where Horne stood on almost every issue for a while, but it appears that I have nothing to worry about should he get the nomination. No matter what, the Democratic party is going to have a good candidate this time, unlike the Tony Miller disaster in 2004 (I know many very strong Democrats, though not me personally, that voted for Northup out of fear that Miller would get into Congress and stay there... not exactly a good candidate obviously).

2. James Moore
Has a website here http://www.jameswmooreforcongress.com/

One of his main issues is taking the money out of political campaigns.

3. I'm going to try and be there
DFA had a similar event earlier this month and the group endorsed Andrew Horne afterwards. You can read more about the event and their impressions at

http://dfa.meetup.com/220/boards/view/viewthread?thread=1671654

As a fellow audience member I was impressed with Horne and thought he appeared the stronger candidate. That being said, James Moore was very dynamic as well.

4. We just had our selection of candidates at our DFA in
Lexington. We are not going to support any congressional candidates, opting to concentrate on county and state races. We did this because we don't have any federal races that need our support. Our big concern is control of the city council and mayor. So we feel that it would be a better use of resources to act locally.

Control of our city council could make the difference between corporate or public control of our water supply. The corporatist on our council may want to privatize garbage collection.

7. Engineer going politician

http://www.jameswmooreforcongress.com/

I'm not a politician; I'm an engineer. Engineers are trained to tackle complex problems, break them down into their component elements, and solve them. That kind of approach is what government needs, and what government should be about.

****************

I've worked with some engineers, and I sure wouldn't vote for the one's that I knew. In my opinion, they basically sport a 'know it all' mentality when in fact they don't. It's like a badge that they wear that states that they know what they are doing. Badges or pieces of paper are sometimes simply handed out via one's connections. I also personally knew of some Moores in Ky, and they were 'unstable', but I'll assume that this is not out of the same batch of Moores. He looks good on paper and says all the right stuff... but then most politicians and wannabees do. One should dig deeper into this Moore's past before floating any support his way just in case. Never hurts to try locating a track record that can be backed up before punching the ballot. Other than that, keep it Democrat or Independent!

12. Horne a Vietnam Vet
Edited on Sun Mar-12-06 01:06 PM by AbsoluteArmorer

<><><> <><><> > When you have one who wore his fatigues in war, he's got one hell of a head on his shoulder and the real responsibility for leadership in govt. I think Andrew Horne would be the pick for 3rd district who has experienced real war.

13. Viet Vet Stands Up in First Congressional District
Yes, I agree. In KY First Congressional District we have two good candidates. One, Jim Bloink is a two time Viet Vet. He's upfront on what he'd do and why. This is excerpted from his web page:

Iraq:
"From 1968-1970 I stood up for our country in Vietnam. Now I'm standing up for Kentucky, for the U.S.A. and for our soldiers in Iraq. It's time they came home...the time has come for us to leave Iraq."

Here's the link:

http://www.jimbloinkforcongress.com/issues.html

the pressure newly elected representatives experience can really only be overcome by those who know that they told the people who they really are, and what they really mean to do. If you're afraid to take a stand, you're afraid of the electorate. Forget courage - I'm sure our two candidates, Mr.Bloink and Mr. Streit, are equally tough - it's the political reality of Washington. Representatives who tell the people who they are and get elected on those issues can act. Others.... immediately upon arriving in DC they worry about their reelection
