Steve Brown 1949-2010
Steve will long be remembered for his tireless work to bring equality and fairness to LGBT Kansans. He was the founding president of the Kansas Democratic Party's LGBT Caucus, was a founding member of the Kansas Equality Coalition, and until his death served as the Chairman of KEC’s Northeast Kansas chapter. In addition to his work in Kansas, Steve has worked with a number of Missouri LGBT organizations over the years.

Memorial services will be held tomorrow at 2:30pm, February 21, at Congregation Beth Torah, 6100 West 127th Street, in Overland Park. Steve’s family has asked that contributions in his name be made to Congregation Beth Torah. Their website is http://www.beth-torah.org/

2. You beat me to it.
I have been in tears off and on all day. I had to go play a concert and have been on the phone ever since. The weather is too bad to make the service so I have put out the word for those of us in KEC to meet one spring day at grave site and just be there. I don't know if I can sleep.

I am so glad you posted this. I was unable.

3. What happened, Muse?
Was he sick? I just saw him before Christmas. Had no idea anything was going on.

Very sad indeed. I loved Steve. We always agreed on just about every issue. Not many in our camp here in JoCo.

4. I really don't know
any more than the family knew right away. He had heart surgery last year. He was at my house in January, looked great and we caught up since we had not seen each other in a while. I spoke with him on the phone often enough to know he was still feeling great a few weeks ago. All I know is it was apparently peaceful, that is enough for me. I will miss the big hugs and kisses and the I love you's he was so generous with, I will miss him. I generally despise funerals but I wish I was there today. Tom may be driving up from Wichita, I called him last night and threatened him to stay home :-) but he is smart and he will be careful. He will most likely come here after if he can make it since he is living here during the week anyway during session.

Oh Proud, this was just so out of the blue. Like a spark went out and left a big hole in our hearts. I will probably post the KEC statement in GLBT later, I am just not ready yet.
