BIG MARCH IN SHAWNEE TODAY!!
WHO: Labor, Move-On and Johnson County Young Dems

WHAT: Health Care Reform for ALL (Rally & March)

WHEN: Saturday November 7, 2009 (9:45am - 11:00am)

WHERE: 15000 Johnson Drive (Johnson Dr. & Nieman)

Shawnee, Kansas

This is in Senator Mary Pilcher Cook's district. She announced on the day the House bill was released that she is proposing legislation to allow Kansas to opt out of federal health care reform.

Please join us in telling Mary Pilcher Cook that Kansas NEEDS health care reform.

We just got word yesterday that teabaggers will be there counter protesting. We need as many people showing up for this march as we can gather. Please come and spread the word. This is probably the most important event we have had to date here in the area in this health care reform battle.

1. More about the march:
The real reason behind this Saturday’s march is to stop Kansas Sen. Mary Pilcher-Cook’s proposed amendment to deny Kansans the CHOICE of a public health insurance plan. Last week, with Koch Industries backed Americans for Prosperity (AFP) at her side, she introduced an amendment with the sole purpose of denying Kansans the very Health Care Reform that is so badly needed.

In response, a grass-roots uprising has snowballed into a tremendous movement. As part of a first phase, numerous concerned Kansas citizens reached out to Sen. Pilcher-Cooks constituents to inform them of the unimaginable desire of their elected official — and nearly 2000 calls were made. But we weren’t done yet…

Phase II starts tomorrow morning, and I hope that you can join us:

Date: Saturday, November 7th, 2009
Time: 9:45-11:00 a.m.
Starting Location: Blue Jacket / Old Shawnee Town
Rally Location: Shawnee City Hall (approx. 10:30 a.m.)

Blue Jacket/ Old Shawnee Town is located on the NE corner of Johnson Drive & Cody. This march will end with a rally in front of Shawnee City Hall. If you are not able to march please come and meet us in front of city hall for the rally. Please bring signs, although some will be available.

We will be greeted by the same Americans for Prosperity group which was with Pilcher-Cook when she introduced her Insurance Protection Amendment. They plan on meeting us at the Shawnee City Hall, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let a bunch of paid “activists” bring down Health Care Reform for the rest of my fellow Kansans.

Call your friends, parents, and anyone else in the area — we must stand, together, strong and united.
