Governor Parkinson to speak at Demofest
I find that to be extremely annoying. One, because he is a lame duck who says he's not running again. Two, because he is a former Republican who said he did not change his position on any issues when he switched parties.

I would have liked to see Howard Dean or even Jesse Jackson (and otherwise my mind is kinda blank when I try to think of prominent liberals). Perhaps neither of those people sell well in Kansas.

Maybe it is key for us to support Parkinson. Unfortunately he seems like our best hope to defeat Brownback. I am thinking of going to Wichita with a "Draft Parkinson" petition. The KDP needs you, Mark, more importantly, Kansas needs you. You are our last best hope to keep from being dragged back into the 19th century.

1. It's a state event
and they generally have a state Democrat as the keynote. In Feb/March at Wash Days they have a national figure.

If you go be sure to come to our Progressive Caucus meeting.

2. I thought they had a national person last year
although I did not go to it. Then Nancy Boyda spoke the next day, which I went to, and I went to the progressive caucus meeting too, except that Nancy came in the middle of that and kinda took it over. One of the guys I met from Wyandotte was complaining about what she said there and I said 'yeah, she kinda told us to shut up'. Like progressives were hurting her with the moderates in our district. And who knows how many in that meeting were even from the 2nd district?

4. You're thinking of Washington Days in spring of 2008
At Demofest last fall the speaker was Jim Slattery.

5. no, I am thinking of two years ago
I just googled it, the speaker was Harold Ford. Still kinda hard for me to believe that has been two years now.

7. I didn't pay for the dinner so I didn't hear Harold Ford
Not that I would have wanted to hear him. LOL

But my point was that is Washington Days, held in late Feb, early March. They have a national speaker then. And the cost is pretty high as well. Demofest, in the fall, features state Democratic leaders. It's only $40 this year.

3. I agree with your first part that he is just a Republican. So sorry your party left you
Mark but that does make you one of us. Actually, of all the things Gov. Sebelius did, that is the one thing I disliked the most. She picked 2 Republicans as running mates, which is inexcusable.

6. unfortunately, he still seems to be our best chance to beat Brownback
especially since he did not appoint a viable Lt. Governor. Most of our winning candidates seem to come from the Republican wing of the Democratic Party.
