Publisher Steve Rose to run for Congress
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 04:43 PM by proud2BlibKansan
The man who spews opinions like Billy Butler sprays hits is running for Congress.

Johnson County Sun publisher Steve Rose, a Republican, told The Star Wednesday that he's in the race for the 3rd District seat that incumbent Democrat Dennis Moore has held for six terms.

Rose, 61, acknowledged that he had endorsed Moore repeatedly over the years in his Sun column. But Rose said Moore had changed.

“I think that under the current administration it’s a much further left government,” Rose said. “And Dennis Moore is voting with them. I think he’s left the mainstream of his constituency.”

Moore has been criticized this year for backing cap-and-trade legislation and the stimulus and bailout packages. He favors health care reform, including the public option.

1. Steve Rose takes up Suicide Mission
Steve Rose says hes running for Congress but here's the funny part... he says he's running against Dennis Moore. LOL!

No seriously, hes going to run against Dennis Moore.

"Steve Rose, the longtime publisher of the Johnson County Sun and well-known civic leader, said Wednesday that he's running for Congress.

Rose, 61, said he would campaign as a Republican in Kansas' 3rd District. If he wins the GOP nomination, he presumably would face six-term Democratic incumbent Dennis Moore."

So here's the funny part of this. A month or so ago I was talking to a friend who is a national republican consultant who was asked by the RNC if he wanted the contract for the independent expenditures for the KS-03 race. The RNC he said was very convincing saying how close the numbers are ... "if you just look at the numbers for this district..." the district could go GOP. It should in fact because of these MAGIC numbers! The guy I know concluded it was indeed a suicide mission. Here's one thing that the numbers NEVER reflect, and you should memorize this for the future in case it ever comes up in conversation:

2. I thought Steve Rose lived on the Missouri
side of the border.

It could be an interesting race, because Rose is essentially an idiot and does not take well to criticism. He comes off as very thin-skinned, which is not a good trait in someone running for office. The debate alone would be worth attending.

3. No, he grew up in PV and lives in OP now
He has one thing Moore's past opponents have not had - name recognition. I think he will be a tough opponent, if he wins the primary. That will be tough for him. They tend to elect the right wing whackos in their primaries.
