Phill messing up major case
Judge criticizes Kline’s office in Hall case

By LAURA BAUER and DIANE CARROLL
The Kansas City Star

A Johnson County judge frustrated over evidence initially withheld in the Kelsey Smith murder case scolded prosecutors on Friday.

District Judge Peter Ruddick told District Attorney Phill Kline and his deputy that they needed to step up and do better, and ensure that all evidence is disclosed to attorneys defending Edwin Hall.

The judge warned that even technical missteps can have a profound impact on the outcome of a case.

“Now come on you guys. You have a responsibility here, not only to your case but to the state of Kansas,” Ruddick said, in a tone that rose as he spoke. “And I want you to start living up to it.”

1. Another stupid thing Phill did concerning this case -
The trial was set to start on the anniversary of the crime. Of course the defense attorney asked for a new date. And Phill objected!!

Remember when Johnson County was a great place to live? Now every criminal for miles around wants to get busted here since Phill is so freakin incompetent.

2. When is he gone?
I don't know considering how he got this job.

Is this another case of moral Phill deciding all by himself that the person does not deserve a fair hearing? I see, we will all just let Phill decide our fates based on his moral standpoint. Who needs evidence? Who needs a trial? I know, let go and let Phill.

Or maybe it is just another case of his incompetence? Who knows? He is just so bad on all counts.

I think those idiots who gave him the job are stupid enough to think that if they just keep at it we will all come around.

3. January
He is not running for election. And if he ends up losing this case, his legal career will be over. (Like it ever got started. LOL)

4. I've long thought that Kline
would screw up this case royally. And I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to be a family member in a situation like this.

I'm a paralegal, and for I needed to call the DA's office on Friday. Now this had nothing to do with the Kelsey Smith case, nor any criminal prosecution -- confidentiality requires I say no more -- and I must say I felt a little slimy just needing to call them. And I know the Johnson County DA's office slightly, having done volunteer work there doing filing while I was in the paralegal program.

5. Everyone I have talked to who works there
says it is just not the same place it was under Morrison. All have mentioned a lack of professionalism.
