Urgent - call Nancy Boyda TODAY!
This is from a Camp Casey friend. Everyone please call Boyda TODAY. I am now sorry I worked on her campaign. This is sooooo wrong.

=========================================================

CALL NOW AND CALL PELOSI WHILE YOU ARE AT IT (PELOSI 202 225 4965)

The following exchange was a DEM rep and Charles Gibson from ABC. You will not believe this. Nancy Boyda from Kansas

202 225 6601

For the full transcript of the disaster on ABC News tonight w/ 3 Freshman Dems, see:
http://www.abcnews.go.com/WNT/story?id=2771933&page=1

... actually it wasn't bad 'til Rep. Nancy Boyda (of Kansas) totally imploded at the very end (and of course this is edited for maximum effect) -- excerpted following:

"Boyda: I think we're going to vote to support what the commander in chief and head of military asks to do. At least, I am certainly going to vote to support it.

Gibson : If he wants the surge, he'll get it.

Boyda: Yes.… He is the commander in chief, Charlie. We don't get that choice. Congress doesn't make that decision.

Gibson: But the polls would indicate, and indeed, so many voters when they came out of the ballot box, said, "We're voting because we want something done about the war and we want the troops home."

Boyda: They should have thought about that before they voted for President Bush not once, but twice."

My sister and I were both screaming at the TV -- first she simpers that the "Commander in Chief" gets whatever he wants, THEN she says the voters what brung her (meaning the Dem. Majority) to THIS Congress to CHANGE THINGS deserve what they voted for in 2000 and 2004. WTF does she think Elections are FOR????

Rep. Boyda needs to HEAR that she's NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE ... she needs to get e-mails and phone calls, LOTS of e-mails and phone calls ...

Stop the damn war.

Forget this game of teeter-totter...this maybe, maybe not...this standing before the cameras with upturned palms, weighing the advantages of President Bush`s troop "surge." Forget the plastic comity that comes with hearing George Bush out one more time. Forget feigning deep deliberations in order to provide cover for Bush`s bruised ego and the nation`s tattered reputation. It`s too late for all that. We`re the nation with the secret torture planes and plenty of duct tape for the heads of prisoners who read the Qur`an. We`re the nation that went shopping while our governemt sent soldiers to Iraq for the second, third and fourth time. We`re the nation that demanded wartime tax cuts, saddling our own grandchildren with mountains of debt.

There is nothing to hide behind anymore so we may as well cut through the BS and call a spade a spade. The invasion of Iraq and the pitiful lack of leadership that followed are mistakes as grave as any we ever made. From the pathetic sideshow of renaming French fries to the indefensible substitution of Saddam for Osama to the cries of treason leveled at objections of conscience, we can stoop no lower. We`ve sacrificed our loved ones, our Constitution, our freedoms, our good name. We`ve run out of money, out of time, out of excuses. There`s no more to give.

Somewhere in Iraq there is an American soldier who still has the chance to live if we demand he be given that opportunity. Somewhere in Iraq there is a small child still lucky enough to have both his arms. Somewhere in Iraq there is a home not yet leveled and a merchant still scratching out a living. Somewhere in the United States there is a sickly grandfather still hoping to see his grandson, a new baby still waiting to meet her father, a preteen missing his baseball coach. These are the human stories, the ones that never show up on a politician`s flip chart.

So often we`re lulled into complacency, accepting submissiveness as a strength of true patriotism or inaction as a sign of civility. The enormous personal responsibility that comes with supporting a war requires dead honesty when that decision turns to disaster. That time has come. There can be no more wiggle room granted to politicians, no more catchy phrases developed by consultants, no more lies adopted as truths. We must demand our troops come home and accept no polished rhetoric designed to kindle the opposite conclusion. ~democrank

1. Thank you thank you thank you
I was so afraid of this. I will call, my husband will call and if I can get my kids to call they will also.

I really liked her, want to continue to like her and I did trust her when I heard her.

This does not sound like the Nancy Boyda I spoke with or listened to.

When we met at Rex's she did not indicate that she felt like this did she? I did not get that impression at all. Was I in la la land?

OK, will call and see what happens. I have rare computer connection right now, mine is sick and this one is ancient and not dependable but I will check back and see what everyone reports.

Thanks for the heads up.

7. I checked into it
It's true. She is supporting the surge. Apparently she thinks (the Dems think) that cutting the funding will harm the troops. She also has decided to focus on helping veterans.

I guess the idea of NOT CREATING veterans has not gone across her desk.

Boyda is now history to me. I am sorry I did the little bit I did to help her. Never again. If she hadn't said what she did while campaigning about the war, I wouldn't be so mad. But she SAID SHE WANTED TO BRING OUR TROOPS HOME!! I heard her say it.

So Nancy Boyda is no better than a lying republican to me now.

And since I heard that her office is reading this: BYE BYE BOYDA!! Enjoy your brief stay in DC. Maybe one day you will see what a STUPID mistake this was.

23. Reading DU?
Hmm, she may not like what she sees.

I am giving her a little space to explain herself. The explanation you just gave falls flat. If they can't articulate the way they vote to the people then perhaps they don't belong there? Oooooh, they might think we don't support the troops, ooooooooh. What ever happened to telling people you do support them and that is why you are voting against sending more. WTF? Nancy, you stronger than this, you can articulate your ideas, I heard you do it.

Do you know why she changed parties? I'm not from your state and hadn't heard of her previously.
Sounds like she is a hypocrite who doesn't understand the basic concept of balance of powers. This is a scary line -
"They should have thought about that before they voted for President Bush not once, but twice."

5. I called this morning.
I spoke with a nice guy, William, who said he was not aware of the interview. He seemed very new to all of this lol but was very nice. I told him what was said and I told him that this did not seem the same platform Nancy had run on. I mentioned that the support for the war was at around 23% so I doubted her district was close to 50/50. I expressed my dismay at the interview and asked him to relay this message to Nancy. I also mentioned that there were many of us who worked very hard to get her in that seat and that none of us ever expected this kind of response to Bush** and his plans for the war.

I am still stunned.

8. Hmm...

Well, this is interesting. I support a troop surge if and only if it is tied in with a withdrawal. Perhaps this will be a little bit premature to call now, should we wait until Bush makes his decision clear on Iraq?

She also said that Congress doesn't get to decide the troop surge and whatnot, that it is ultimately Bush's decision. I believe this to be true, to an extent. I believe Congress has authority over the military to but I doubt a complete withdrawal from Iraq would get the required votes needed in both houses, indeed if both houses are required to vote on it. I am surprised by her words though, they seemed to give her a lot of air time to. I wish I could have seen the whole interview unedited. And is it me or did that interviewer rub you wrong to? Seemed so condescending.

Perhaps she's playing politics here. She may be ready to support/cast a vote that will help her back home with her constituiency in what is a more or less red district. It may just be politics... I'm not sure if I should call, can you guys and gals give me your input? As far as Iraq goes I heard her say that she believed it was going wrong, that she essentially echoed our sentiments of it being a mess, and that she was really with holding judgement until the Iraq War Study group came out with it's report. Did I miss something?

Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 02:35 PM by proud2Blib
Bush is ignoring it.

And while Boyda plays politics, our soldiers die. An average of 2 a day. Their blood is now on Nancy Boyda's hands.

She repeatedly said she wanted to bring the troops home. Now if she votes to support the war, she will be a proven hypocrite and a LIAR.

I no longer trust Boyda. She is no better than Dennis Moore. And he is a war monger who voted for that damn torture bill.

And to think I defended her here when you called her your bitch. You can call her that now. It seems to fit. :)

15. Can you pinpoint exact things she said?

Regarding the troops and the war? So that when I call I don't seem like I'm totally out of the know. :\ I was going to talk about how she said she wanted to bring the troops home and didn't want to write a blank check out to him and how I feel this is kind of a flip flop. I understand it was an edited interview, I honestly believe she needs to make a personal attempt to clear this up.

Ask why she has flip flopped from her campaign promise to end the war and bring the troops home.

Ask what her response is to the hundreds of thousands of her constituents who did NOT vote for Bush - once OR twice.

14. THE point.
You are exactly right. We must stop this war and politics should be the least of her worries. She is one day in a 2 year term, she has a long way to go.

Jeremy, this is for you even though I am responding to Proud....call. Do not let your liking her cloud your duty. We must always be ready to correct the course if they stray, they work for us and without our input they will not know what we want. It may be a red district but as I said before, with the numbers out on the support of the war there is no reason to think it will help her. There can't possibly be a 50/50 split even.

Talked to Thomas and told him that her statement sounded totally different than what she campaigned for. I also told him about the Reid/Pelosi letter that said, ""WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO REJECT ANY PLANS THAT CALL FOR OUR GETTING OUR TROOPS ANY DEEPER INTO IRAQ" (I got this off DU). He didn't really say anything but thanked me for calling and he would pass my message along to Congressman Boyda.

Sweet girl, took down my name, phone number, address, sounded like she was going to snail mail me a pre-made response. She laughed when I mentioned she probably received a lot of these calls lately. ;)

I'm interested to see what her response is. I'm positive she'll give one soon, so we'll see how things pan out then. I mentioned mostly that, to quote one of you all from above, this really was not the platform she ran on at all. I still support her, will still campaign for her in 08(unless she backtracks on a thing I asked her, and Gods have mercy on her if she did that, I'd be furious), and sure as hell will vote for her... But I am a bit mift. Will see what Bush's plan is though, it may be mute in the end.

43. Democrats Attack as Bush Alters Iraq Plan

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/010507R.shtml
As the White House polished a new Iraq strategy that includes replacing key US military leaders and possibly sending more soldiers to Iraq, Congress' new Democratic chiefs said they would oppose any troop buildup.

So why is Boyda saying she supports a surge? If this article is to be believed, it looks like she isn't even going along with the party. Good grief.

Sure I don't like what she said but i'm not going to turn on her just because she said one thing that I don't like, this is life your not always going to like out of what comes of people's mouths.. That's all I want. She is in office less than 24 hours and goes back on what she said during her campaign. Don't forget she switched her position on gay marriage in 04.

I am willing to wait and give her time to do the right thing. But I will be paying very close attention to her voting record.

To be honest, it was her comment about voting for bush that really turned me off. She seems to have forgotten that a lot of the people who voted for her and probably most who worked on her campaign didn't vote for bush.

And yes, there are lots of progressives in Kansas. They came out of the woodwork to get Nancy Boyda elected and Paul Morrison and Kathleen Sebelius.

I also attacked Nancy but after talking with her office and going over the text and excerpt presented on thinkprogress.org (which seemed to indicate a progression of the questions that Gibson was asking) and then just thinking about it, I changed my mind and got back on Nancy's side and have been defending her. I'm not ready to throw her under the bus quite yet.

I'm putting my neck on the line in some respects, but I will continue to support Nancy. I will do so as long as she votes, as she has been doing, along the party lines. I will wait and see what questions she asks new Sec. Def. Gates and others when they are in front of the Armed Services Committee trying to justify the surge. I will also wait to see how she votes on the committee's recommendations and why she votes that way. I will also be watching her voting record. That's what really counts.

47. Ditto
She's acting like all the Republicans have the past 6 years! Gonna support the Bush even if she has a brain in her head or an idea of what the people who voted for her want. I was pissed when I read the article just now! Out with the old, in with the same, just a different name.
