Research coup for KU
For the next five years, the University of Kansas will be the site of research that will captivate classrooms and perhaps reverse one of nature's most troubling events.

The receipt of a $19 million federal grant to search for the cause of the melting of polar ice caps is a huge coup for the university and for the regional effort to enhance the area's status as a research hub.

KU's work should provide insight into the unprecedented melting that is linked to global climate changes. The melting is causing sea levels to rise, threatening coastal communities, and scientists say polar bears and some seal species may disappear.

The fact that a university in landlocked Kansas — better known for heat waves than arctic blasts — has been honored by the National Science Foundation's Office of Polar Programs makes the award all the more, well, cool

3. I could see them petitioning KU to "examine the controversy"
over whether God just decided to melt our icecaps because he was pissed.... :eyes:

2. That's great! Wish I were still there to see it.
And I hope we can continue to make scientific advances in Kansas despite our nutjobs on the BOE!
