CATHOLICS SPEAK OUT AGAINST CHURCH STAND ON AMENDMENT
TOPEKA – Kansas Catholics spoke out today, criticizing the Catholic Church for its support of the so-called marriage amendment on Tuesday's ballot.

"It is so un-Christlike to take this stand," said Father Phil Reed, who recently returned to Africa as a missionary. He has been corresponding with his sister Mary Ralstin of Shawnee about his beliefs.

The Knights of Columbus, to date, is the largest donor and the largest out-of-state donor to the campaign. The national organization recently gave $100,000 to the supporters of the amendment in Kansas. Bruce Ney, a Catholic and chair of Kansans for Fairness, was so disappointed in the Knight's campaign donation that he dropped his 15-year membership with the organization

To date, 118 members of the clergy have signed a letter opposing the amendment. The letter and the names of the signers are available online at www.kansansforfairness.org.

1. Good for them!
Yesterday while making calls at the phone bank we talked to people all over town and outside of town who had just had door to door visits from the Knights of Columbus. It is so discouraging but this helps a lot.

2. Not seeing any catholic clergy on the signatures list
Just pointing that out, since I didn't catch in on first reading the article.

3. That doesn't surprise me

The clergy is more likely to support the church's official stance, which is against homosexuality.
