Evan Bayh said they would support a proposed 2008 presidential nominating calendar that inserts a contest between the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary, should the party adopt the schedule next month.

Vilsack said Iowa and New Hampshire will remain the traditional lead-off states, despite the decision by the Democratic National Committee's rules and bylaws committee Saturday to insert Nevada's party caucuses between the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary.

"At this point we continue to preserve our first-in-the-nation status and that's important," Vilsack said, referring to both Iowa and New Hampshire.

The calendar recommended by the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee (and voted on by Lt. Gov. Sally Pederson) is in violation of existing Iowa Law (having no contest earlier than eight days after Iowa's Caucus). OUR Governor agrees with a plan that violates state law. I guess it doesn't matter to him - law-schmaw I wanna be President.
