Anyone else laugh at Nussle edication plan?
I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. After 15 years of trying to choke public education, Nussle is portraying himself as the white knight of education.
Boy he must think Iowa's schools have turned out a bunch of idiots. A person would have to be a total dunce to believe this guy.
But if you run into someone who likes Nussle's plan, send him my way. I have a bridge in Brooklyn I have been trying to sell. It's a bargain.

1. Don't you see???
Education is a state issue, not a federal issue, THAT's why he's been starving it for the last decade and 1/2 in Congress. When he's :puke: our Governor, THEN he'll start caring about education.

(LOVE his funding for charter schools plan EXTRA big tax cuts for parents who pay tuition to private pre-schools and charter schools, you know pre-school should NOT be a government program! - that way all of the below the poverty level and working poor can't get their kids educated - keeps the wealthy kids ahead of the game.) Hope his next plan is to cut all scholarships except for the kids who's folks make more that $250,000 a year! :bounce:

3. I am so tired of the 'tax cuts/vouchers for private schoolers' scam....
It's a choice, just like anything else. If had kids, and I paid taxes for public schools but choose to pay for private schooling, then it's my choice. Just like driving a gas-inefficient vehicle. I assume the responsibility, why should I get anything back?

It's just a silver-spoon scam, another way to get fatter tax cuts for the wealthy and undermine public schools.

I pay taxes and don't have any kids....where's MY tax cut, Jimmy?

2. But he'll provide "world-class education"!
The fact that it'd be third-world notwithstanding...

5. It sure didn't take long for the ISEA to endorse Culver
They interviewed Culver and Nussle on Thursday and came out with the endorsement for the Culver on Friday morning.

9. "I'd never seen an asshole speak before" said an ISEA member
"didn't think it was possible. But then Republicans have been breaking most rules lately" he continued in an interview I just made up.
"With Nussle as governor, kids will be in the factories as soon as they can cypher"

10. what really bugs me is how he talks about it
the way he says it is that he'll get teachers the pay they deserve yet doesn't want to raise taxes to pay for it. where the hell is he going to get the cash for it? private donations?

as already mentionned, when was the last time he voted for an increase in teacher pay?

11. It's magic!
Kind of like funding a war without raising taxes (and we see how well THAT's working out...).

12. On WSUI i heard that yhe ISEA refused to endorse Nussle
with some pretty damaging Words. It was somrthing like this:
"While Mr. Nussle's plan seemed to hit all our key points, his past record of 15 years scores between 0 and 25 on our scale. Mr. Nussle's record is completly out of sync with his words."
That is a close paraphrase of what I heard. The announcer read it without laughing.

15. First, Hi!
I have been lurking for a little while and enjoy your discussions.

I was completely surprised by his "plan" and I was curious if Republicans will actually like it, especially how he will fund it by just cutting from other places which he neglected to identify.

Am I right in remembering that the state Republicans did not support Gov. Vilsack when he tried to raise teacher pay?

I'm in Dubuque and definitely want a change in the 1st District and hope we can completely send Nussle into retirement.

:hi:

Since you're in 's district (like me!) you know how much attention he's paid to raising teacher pay and funding education  in the last 15 years.

Now that he's their candidate republicans will fall in line w/his garbage. Who cares what happens to those public school kids - has a plan to give the rich huge tax rebates for sending their kids to private pre-schools and charter schools! What a guy :puke:

17. Welcome aboard LW ! I think regressives have certain code
words and phrases that are an insiderspeak that us commies can't understand.
In this case "more money for schools and higher teachers pay" actually is translated into:
"I will cut taxes for the rich. And I will push for vouchers for private schools. Those private schools will pay their teachers really good (uh ... they do?). And the rich kids won't have to breath the same air as the common trash"
So you can easily see why repressives would clap wildly for this promise. When your a regressive repressive, it's not what you say but how you say it that counts! Right all you human-animal hybrids?
