Info from the grapevine
The special session isn't going to happen. In order for it to be called, there needs to be 2/3 of the House AND 2/3 of the Senate in agreement as to why they want to go into special session. The two branches can't get their ducks in a row.

There has been a rash of (really) nasty push-polling happening on behalf of our GOP state candidates -- seems they dug up the most juicy tidbits they could find to include in the "poll" (which, interestingly enough, was done by a human and not a recording). Why? To test the strengths of the various districts and to target money into the most vulnerable races early. Word has it there will be another round of dirty tricks in late summer or early fall for the same purpose.

If you receive one of these calls, don't hang up. Go through the motions and be sure to answer the very last question: "Are you sure you support (candidate) now?" (or a close variant of that wording). Let them know you support your candidate regardless -- it will make your district less likely to be targeted for monies.

2. If you get a push poll ASK TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR!
Get as much info as you can on who authorized the call, where they are calling from etc. Then call the office of the candidate that the call was directed against and advise them of what you found out.
Try to get the wording of the questions as best you can.
If asked if you are a Dem, a puke or an Indepedent, you are an independent! (tough not to say Dem, but that may end the call).
Couple years ago after a particularly scurilous push poll, I waited til 10 o'clock at night and called the offending candidate and just lit into him! Don't know if it did any good, but I felt better.
