Hi-
I called Leach's office, and the staffer said they were receiving a "bajillion" calls - no human number could represent the number of calls they're getting. Way to go, people!
In the past, Leach has voted against arctic drilling, so he probably will this time, but let's keep the pressure on! The vote should be tomorrow.

Dear MoveOn member,
Congress is set to begin debate on next year's budget this week. Top
Republicans are using high gas prices as an excuse to slip through a
dangerous provision to open up the pristine Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge and other coastlines for drilling--but you can help stop them
today.
By a razor-thin margin of 51-48 last week, the Senate passed a budget bill authorizing oil drilling in the pristine Arctic wilderness--a move that will add to the record profits of big oil companies, but won't help consumers at the pump. Now, in the next few days, Rep. Leach will cast the final vote. This is our last chance to save the Arctic and it's going to be close.
Can you call him and urge him to vote against any budget that includes
drilling in the Arctic?

Below are some points to help you--just pick one or two and tell the staffer who answers why those issues are most important to you. Make sure you mention that you're a constituent and, if you want to, ask for a letter from Rep. Leach explaining his position on the matter.
Drilling in the Arctic Refuge and other coastlines will not solve the
major problems that we face when it comes to oil dependence, high gas
prices and energy. Drilling in the Arctic will not impact our oil supply in a significant way and it will not save us any money at the pump. In fact, it amounts to another major giveaway to major oil companies that are already reporting record profits of up to $150 million a day, while the rest of us suffer with high gas prices.1
Here are the facts:
* Drilling in the Arctic will not lower gas prices. A new study
from the Energy Information Administration shows that it will
only save us $0.01 per gallon--and not until 2025.
* Oil from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would never meet more
than 3% of our energy needs, even at peak production.
* If we do drill in the Arctic, that oil will not be available for
close to ten years--doing nothing to solve our immediate energy
woes.
* We have already diversified our oil supply, as more oil today
comes from Mexico and Canada than the Middle East.
* Oil companies have pleaded with Congress for years to open the
Arctic up for drilling.
* The Arctic Refuge is the largest wildlife refuge in the nation
and is home to numerous species of birds and bears, as well as
wolves, caribou and many other animals. Drilling there would
permanently disrupt these habitats to a point where they may
never recover.
If Congress wants to solve our gas and energy crisis, they need to work towards a real solution that is based on conservation and higher fuel efficiency standards, not drilling in the Arctic or other coastal lands.
Our representatives need to hear from Americans who are opposed to
drilling in the Arctic or other coastlines. Can you make a call today?
