"I Think You've Got To Stand For Something"
Saw this on KCRG;

DES MOINES, Iowa - A key Senate leader standing in the way of efforts to bring a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages before Iowa voters said Friday he understands the potential political consequences for himself and his majority Democratic caucus for taking a stance against what he views would be writing discrimination into the constitution.

“I’m willing to accept the possibility of me losing,” said Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, D-Council Bluffs, who has steadfastly opposed the marriage amendment effort.

“I accept that every vote I take up in that chamber can result in my defeat in the next election. It can result in a defeat by my fellow members to be their leader. I accept that reality,” Gronstal said during Friday’s taping of Iowa Public Television’s “Iowa Press” show. “I think you’ve got to stand for something in politics.”

Gronstal’s stance has prompted Republican Gov. Terry Branstad – who favors a referendum on the marriage issue- to refer to him as “a dictator” while minority Republicans who tried unsuccessfully to force a vote on Thursday through procedural maneuvering called him an obstructionist and likened the Senate to Gronstal’s monarchy.

It's going to be a long four years with that horse's ass Branstad as Governor.

1. Gronstal is the best.
He has a stump speech that lists Democratic party accomplishments that make me want to stand up and yell F'n A Right On Brother.

2. "a dictator?" "a monarchy?"
How about just "the majority party, as elected by the voters of the state?"

I just can't believe ol' zombie Terry got elected again.

4. Watching tollbooth Terry bend whichever way the baggers
want him to, lest he be primaried again, makes Gronstal's words even more meaningful.
Thank you Mike Gronstal for understanding what rights are. Fuck the two-bit republican bullies.
Hey, Terry, how's about 'we the people' get a vote on fucking up education in Iowa?

5. I just emailed him a little 'thank-you' for standing up to these cretins.
Well, I didn't call them cretins.

I imagine he's getting plenty of other crappy email about this. Hope he's getting some supportive ones too.
