Bill could make free birth control available
A bill moving through the Iowa legislature could make free birth control available to thousands of low income men and women here in Iowa.

The proposed bill would allow low-income women to get pills, IUDs and other forms of birth control for free. Men in similar financial situations could get a free vasectomy.

Not surprisingly, the RTL crowd has their undergarments in a bind over this. And of course they had to spout off their abstinence only lines again.

1. When I was a volunteer at Planned Parenthood years ago,
it broke my heart to hear again and again "I just couldn't afford my birth control pills last month. I hope I'm not pregnant."

Being able to control family size is a big part of working up out of poverty -- I wish I could just wave a magic wand and make this bill into law today.

Opponents also argue giving away contraception encourages people to have sex and then leads to abortions.

Whereas, if we can just keep those pesky contraceptives out of their hands, they will never think about sex at all?

4. These clowns ought to ask Bristol Palin how well abstinence education worked.

3. Can't imagine that would pass, but one can hope
If men could get pregnant, birth control pills would be given at communion and abortion would be a sacrament.
