Former governors: ‘Labor bill makes no sense’ (DMR)
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 04:10 PM by Debi
Leave it to the DMR - one side to every story! I guess the DMR forgot about the most recent 'former' Governor - wonder what his position would be? :eyes:

<snip>

A bill being debated today that would set minimum pay and benefit standards for Iowa workers is being opposed by two of the state’s former governors.

The bill, House File 333, would require that companies that contract for public projects pay their workers a wage and benefits reflective of those paid in private projects in the area.

1. Or what about Robert Fulton?
I know he didn't serve for very long, but even 16 days as Governor still means he's a former Governor.

4. Yeah, reading those comments is a little depressing
We might be a blue state, but just barely.

6. I don't know..
It may be that the 'Right to Work' crowd is just more vocal (and pay their lobbyists more money), and organize press conferences that the DMR print as 'news' on a regular basis.

10. You are exactly right. Right cultivates the press. We don't
I had a long discussion with a good friend who eats, sleeps and drinks politics. What really chafes him is to see how the Dems basically leaves the press be and lets them do their job. At the same time Republicans are seeking out the press and working them to get their talking points planted in stories.
Seems like this is a game where the Repugs know all the strategies and we are trying to play straight by the rules.

5. I clicked the link and read article and comments
The level of vitriol from those on the right is frightening. If Terry Braindead is against it, then I'm for it. Let's hope the bill passes and becomes law.

11. Is there someplace which tells the members votes
on this proposal? Because if I find out my Rep., Cindy Winckler, voted against it, she's done. Or at least she's done with me. And any Reps., Democrat or republican, who voted against it should be defeated next time as well.
