Travel the highways in Iowa; their tollbooths give out pie!

2. We have toll booths???
I love Jon Stewart. He's cool as hell. And his irreverent humor makes me stay sane.

3. Brandstadt wanted to make I80 a toll way in Iowa
Iowans rose up and sent him packing - after he decided to quit after 16 years

4. Welcome to DU OU812MB!
:hi: I know our local Board of Supervisors tried to put a toll on some bridges some time ago to get the money to rebuild the bridge - they were laughed out of it (and out of office).

8. Iowans are genuinely nice...
...and I never fully comprehended how nice until I moved to Boston in my 20's.

The people in Boston are nice, but Iowans are uber-nice and totally genuine. They're not
just being polite, they truly are nice people--to the core. When I'd go into a grocery
store or a store in a mall--in Boston, the customer service attitude was nonexistent, compared
to the kindness you get in a Iowa Hy-Vee or in any stores in the mall.

The people here will do anything for you. I remember being so annoyed when I would go jogging
on some of the secondary highways. On a 5-mile jog, I'd get at least 5 cars pulling over to
ask me if I needed help and if my car had broken down.

The people here are so gracious and kind!

9. I grew up in Des Moines but mostly dated the rural girls.
And I am not disagreeing with anything you have posted but I only want to offer a slightly different view. I live outside of Nashville now and as far as cars stopping for a stranded motorist is concerned, my experience is that they need the police down here to direct traffic for all of the people who want to stop to help. I didn't have a similar experience when I lived in Iowa. I have a friend who travels every summer and told me once after returning from a trip that took her through Iowa that she couldn't believe how unfriendly and suspicious Iowans were. I asked her which part of Iowa she went through and she told me Western Iowa. I told her, of course, that place is full of freepers. They're suspicious of their own shadow. My ex-wife is from Washta and she had no trouble believing my friends story either. I attended Buena Vista in the early '80s. That place wasn't what I hear it is now. When I attended they were bragging about the high percentage (over 90%) of students from northwest Iowa. Not very impressive for an educational institution if you ask me. And since I wasn't from northwest Iowa my college experience wasn't what it might have been. I mostly hung out with the other 10% because the majority was too suspicious of you to really be your friend. Eventually I transferred to and graduated from Simpson. Much better experience.
